i was just curious. yes. i've wanted chickens for 20 years and finally have them. this is a learning curve and constant research. i love it!!!

Nothing wrong with asking questions. There is plenty to be learned and shared here, and lots of great people to learn from. I learn more here everyday. Araucanas are an actual breed, while EE are not. EE are mutts that most of us love, because of their cuteness, fluff, and demeanor....and of course their eggs! Plus, every EE chick is a guessing game of what it will look like, then what color egg it will lay.

I also finally have chickens after wanting them for years. Happy you finally got to start your flock! I have found that it starts as an idea, that could turn into a hobby....In reality, it kinda takes over and becomes a lifestyle. (a very rewarding one)

thanks. the sun bathing one is hilarious. they love being in their run but hate being moved from brooder to run and back again, i just hope going in and out of coop daily will be an issue. uggggh. this has totally taken over my life. i actually will be sad when the babies move to garage brooder as there wont be any peeping in the house till next year or two. (5 wk, not feathered. 2 buff 1 GC and 1 SLW)

Hatchery sourced Easter Eggers are not mutts. They just haven't been bred toward any particular breed standard. They are what the recognized Araucana and Ameraucana were derived from. They are the foundation stock of those breeds, which is why they are so similar. However, while the Araucana and Ameraucana have been bred to lay a specific color egg; Easter Eggers have been bred for a variety of egg colors.

question here:
how come there are so many different variety of EE out there and they are still EE? just because the hatchery calls them EE, are they really EE or are they Aracaunas?
can we TRULY guess what color eggs they will lay ahead of time?? I've heard check their legs, check their ears, check the back feathers...ANY of this actually true?

our EE are heading to 8 wks and i have officially changed their feed to NON medicated chick starter grower feed this week!!
our 3 are the only chicks to have gotten pecked, they are the most difficult to come when called in and yet they love their special attention. 2 of them have the fluffy faces & 1 is long-any reason?

There is no way to know what color an Easter Egger will lay, until she actually starts laying. You can be fairly sure of blue or green eggs if the bird has a pea comb, but there are exceptions.

With out the down/judgemental side of sounding "politically or socially incorrect" in the back yard world...it's like when you fill out a census/survey for your nationality...there's either this, this,or other.
It's a new realm or 'history of lineage',if you will. All we can do is try to log honest info&watch. Log pics& info for facts-if it's mixed with this or that=outcome. Sorry if I'm offending anyone it's kinda just a scientific approach. People can never make up their minds&agree. If they are your chickens&you like them, roll with it. If you want certain types just be ready to invest more $ or effort for all the info&efforts that went into creating &isolating it genetically. Make sense at all? We are all yoked life's about just defining yolked for you/your standards. Then just roll with it.
Folks often say they like a person who knows exactly what they want,REALLY? How come instant,hateful,emotional&judging reactions insue often after that's revealed? If we take a mirror&look deep in our own eyes, it's that we envy their assurance in something we can't have, or enjoy RIGHT away. Instead of hating yourself and then as a devouring pack tearing down a perfect peacock when it stands before us for once why not cheer&appreciate it for what it actually is? Gonna post lyrics to a powerful song..check it out (just because it's a kid flick do NOT think it's not REALLY powerful). Enjoy the day people&just enjoy your birds. Some people can't have birds and will never get to watch one pip&zip or cuddle a chick under their chin. Stop taking SO much for granted!

Yep, I have an exception. Awesome pea comb and awesome brown/taupe eggs. Light Green at first but the last 5 eggs have been taupe/ brown
