Easter Egger club!

A
One of 4 of my EE eggs has hatched! I'm very happy to see that it is yellow...my OE that hatched early yesterday is black...I was hoping for some lighter colors! My other 2 EE's that are 3 weeks old are a sliver/blue and black/bared color. Now just three EE's, 1 OE, and 6 FBCM eggs to hatch! Whew, I'll be a nervous wreck by the time this hatch is over! LOL!

Another EE just hatched (she is yellow too)! That leaves two more EE's to go! A FBCM is zipping and the last Olive Egger has made a huge hole in the shell!

Earlier this year I had quite a few EEs, from Cackle and tractor supply. I only keep one from Cackle and sold all the rest, and picked up another from a swap. So here are mine!

My oldest girl, Snakehead, is a year and a half and actually went broody recently! Here she is puffed up because she has a baby Guinea and a Spitz-Egger just hatched this week. So far she's being a very good Mama, which is a relief.

Second is my Cackle girl that I got in February. I still don't have a name for her. I only name random ones and favorites, though, as their names come to me. She was the smallest and I liked her rainbow ombre look.

Next is the "pullet chick" I bought at the swap. Actually I bought two and neither ended up being pullets. I'm not sure if they were being deceptive or just didn't know. He's been very timid since I got him, and so far he is well behaved and not harassing the girls. My best roster was a real weenie as a chick and turned out to be the best rooster you could ask for, so hopefully this guy is the same way.

Last is not an EE, but I just want to show her off anyway - a beautiful lavender Ameraucana I picked up a couple weeks ago. She is a gorgeous silver color and I'm trying to come up with a name based on that. I have noticed she always seems much more hot than the rest of my chickens for some reason.

I have an empty rabbit hutch I use for a brooder on occasion and she likes hanging out in it because then the boys don't bother her. She's five months old and starting to let them mate but she's still not happy about it lol. I don't blame her though, I need to get rid of a few but it's so hard :(

Um, sorry to burst your bubble, but being an Easter Egger does not guarantee she'll lay a green or blue egg. Of my 7 EE's I get one medium green egg, two light green eggs, one light blue egg, one very light blue (almost white) egg, one yellow/gold and one pink.

:bun That's why their called Easter Eggers; you never know what color egg your going to get until you find it!
Yes. Some breeders guarentee that they only incubate GREEN eggs to try to get as many hens that lay green eggs as possible.

I've noticed that...all chicks seem to have that response. I think my duck and goslings did too, but it's been so long I cannot remember for sure. I wonder why that is? Just about every reflex action has a reason, especially in animals that rely a lot on instinct.
Not all of mine like it. Just Uranus! Mars likes to perch on my shoulder like my parrots lol.

Yes, that is what you do to roosters to calm them so you can milk the semen from them for artificial insemination. What I have read is that they instinctively "play dead" when placed on their backs, to cause a predator to lose interest when they are in that very vulnerable position. Moving or struggling would get their guts ripped out.

ETA I found an article from an experiment that showed they will remain immobile longer when they know they are being watched, in comparison to when there was a plywood barrier placed between the bird and the observer. So, in theory, and not to burst anyone's bubble, you could say its as cute or funny as scaring the **** out of your cat with a cucumber.
Oh well I won't do it anymore :( she seemed to close her eyes and make cute noises.

Solid yellow or patterned? I got a yellow chipmunk this time and she's exactly like if you could take a BBR pullet and soak her in bleach. She's not white, exactly, more of a cream color and her patterning is barely there. The brown shows as faint stippling on her back and the breast has a peach wash to it

Pictures! Mine are all at the egg wait stage and as exciting as that is, I miss this...

She is mostly yellow with these pretty silvery white wing feathers. I can tell she's definitely an EE because of dem foofy cheeks.

Got some pics of the EEs today. They've changed so much!! :love

This is my sweet Suzie.
