I have 1 cuckoo maran hen and this easter egger rooster (on the picture). and i'm just wondering if anyone has tried this mix, and what color chicks did they get.
and also are olive Eggers good egg layers?

The problem is that the term Easter Egger doesn't really mean much. EE's are not a breed, there are no standards for them. It is just a name for a chicken that might or might not have the blue egg shell gene. Since a rooster does not lay an egg you can't tell if he has it or not. That changes if you know what breeds his parents were. What do you know about his parents? Were they any specific breeds? But without specific information on his parents you just don't know.

That goes for what color eggs his daughters might lay and what color/pattern the chicks might have.

I don't see any barring on him, so with a Cuckoo Marans mother any boys will be barred and any girls will not be barred. That's half-way to making black sex linked chicks. The other part is that the boys would have a spot on the head where the girls would not. Would you be able to see that spot in the down when they hatch? I don't know enough about his genetics to be able to answer that for sure, but I think there would be a pretty good chance. There is a real good chance the chicks will be black or mostly black because of the mother's genetics.

Then you have the question of how dark an egg does that Marans lay? The darker the egg the better, but some just don't lay eggs that dark.

If he has two copies of the blue egg gene, then he will give one to all his daughters and all her eggs will be blue or green. If he has one blue shell gene and one not-blue, then abut half his daughters will lay blue or green eggs and the others will lay brown. If he does not have any, then all the daughters will lay brown eggs, no blue or green with that hen.

If that Cuckoo Marans hen is a good egg layer and the rooster's mother and grandmothers were good egg layers, the pullets probably will be too. You can see how well that Marans is doing but he does not lay eggs so you don't know what genetics he is contributing to egg laying.

There is only one way to find out, try it.

thank you, I think he gives blue eggs tho because the woman that sold me his father told me that her flock of easter Eggers only lay blue or green eggs, and my flock also only lays green eggs, so his mom lays green eggs and his father comes from a flock that only lays green eggs. my cuckoo Maran hen isn't a very good layer but okey tho, but I don't know about her mother because I didn't own her mother. but my cuckoo Maran comes from a meat factory so she's the same size as my brahma chickens. but her egg color is maybe like number 4 or 5 on this color chart. if the pullets from these 2 only lay brown eggs then that's okey by me, I don't have a lot of brown egg layers neither so it would be fun to get either brown egg layers or olive Eggers :) thank you for your answer, I will try this and see what I get

I did my EE roo is white with very little black and the hen is well black . The one chick that I got from my test batch was black with brownish gold lacing. I now have 3 chicks out of same hen and roo 2 roos and a hen. I can't wait to see the colors

I did hatch one just to see and she is gorgeous black face black legs and black with brownish gold lacing. My ee roo is all white with black tail and very little black ( he is a minty green egger he's an F1 olive egger buff chantecler x pencil laced white ee hen). I hatched 3 more so far and I have 2 roos and a hen so we shall see.

Actually when it comes to EE chickens (this comes from an APA Judge) the feet color dictate the egg color. Green feet EE lay green eggs and cream colored feet lay the light brown eggs. So if the roo in question is a green legged roo he carries the genes for the green eggs. Since Cuckoo is a dominant trait the chicks should all be cuckoo olive Eggers ( if the roo has green legs.)

Sadly that's not true. There is no link between shank colour and egg colour just as there is no link between ear lobe and egg colour. the only way you can tell what genetics a rooster carries is to test breed.
