I've been looking at the various reviews and I think I like EEs enough to add them to our "want to have these" list - but I have a question.
Since they are what is considered 'mutt' chickens, how are they identified? Is it that sort of 'muff' thing around the head? The really small combs?
I mean, I see 'what is this chicken?' posts and right away someone chimes in with "It's an Easter Egger!"
So - what do you look for that makes you sure it's one of them? Thanks!

Most Easter eggers have:
pea comb
green legs
muff/beard
ameraucana-like body shape
common to have partridge (silver or gold) colouration.
lays green eggs.

Since there are about two pure breeds with green legs (I believe the Chanticleer is one?) the green legs are an immediate clue, and so long as we know it's not a faverolle, muff most often means EE or Ameraucana. Not a tonne of muffed chicken breeds out there.

And body shape is a bit of a giveaway, if you know what you're looking at.

There is no standard so the automatic id's would come from the "common" characteristics that most have....willow(green)legs, some facial feathering, pea comb, etc.....the harder ones are those with clean faces, off color legs, single combs, etc.....*some folks throw out ee too easily, but there are some very easy to spot ones out there. Another easy tell is when they have been sold to the poster as Americana or wete represented as ameraucana but are not showing characteristics within the standard for ameraucana

I would say, the closest they look to official Ameraucana the better, I mean anyone with a Cream Legbar cross can say they are selling EEs, but 90% of people that think they have purchased Ameraucana have actually EEs(green shanks, off colored)
I was reading a second article today addressing the false representation of EEs as Araucana and Ameraucana. I have sworn to never ever adopt any of the three for fear of being duped (aside from the fact that Araucana sound like an impossibility to breed and hatch alive). If I wanted a "mutt" I could play with breed mixing myself lol.
