How well are easter eggers at avoiding predators? We're planning on free ranging in a next couple of months when the hens and rooster are old enough.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. The answer to your question depends largely on how many predators and what kind of predators you have. If you live in an area that has lots of predators, I would not advise free ranging your flock (no matter what kind of chickens you have), or you will eventually end up losing your entire flock. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. If you choose to free range, good luck with your flock.

I wouldn't bet on any chicken being able to avoid predators. If you free range you have to expect you will be losing some to predators, and maybe you favorite ones. When preds are able to score an easy meal, they will keep coming back.

Thanks for the advice, we really don't have any ground predators there more Arial prepredators but they come seasonally, I use to free range bantams and I haven't lost one since, the Falcons usually go for their chicks but almost never the adults we don't have huge hawks here just little ones or can a little one still kill a chicken?
