Hi all! I have an Easter egger that is 18-19 weeks old now and i am pretty sure it’s a Roo but figured id ask the BYC experts here!
Saddle and neck feathers are suspicious for a Roo as well as the larger redder comb. But the actual tail feathers seem more hen like. It has attempted a cock a doodle maybe 3 times now but has not been fully successful and has not made a habit out of it. I figured that would be the tell tale sign by now. It was introduced into a flock of 4 hens with 3 other chicks. It is definitely a bit protective of the chicks it was introduced with but hasn’t really shown any sort of aggressive behavior. So it’s kind of thrown me for a loop. Here are pictures. He/she is the brown/black color. The full black one in the picture is the Olive Egger hen that is the same age, a little smaller but almost the same size now.

More pictures of neck and saddle/tail feathers. The saddle feathers are really giving rooster vibes but the tail feathers are nice and rounded, i had thought they were meant to be pointy?

100% cockerel. The attempts at crowing and pointed saddle and hackle feathers cinch it. The sickle feathers, the male specific tail feathers you're thinking of, come in much later than the other male specific feathers. Male saddle and hackle feathers come in around 16-24 weeks I believe.

In this diagram from ChickenFans.com you can see how most of a male's tail feathers are rounded exactly like a female's. It's really just the sickle feathers that are pointed.
