Hi all! We received an EE ‘day old female’ from Meyer Hatchery this year and (s)he has me a little perplexed… was hoping some of the pros would have some insight as to her gender. All signs point to female- with the exception of those gnarly looking sickle feathers. She’s a little over 12 weeks now, and I’ve read that maybe what looks like sickle, is actually just underdeveloped tail feathers. I see no points in the hackles, and her comb isn’t overly pink/red compared to her sisters. Legs aren’t huge, and her disposition seems hen. Her color is a little strange though… we absolutely love her (color, especially) and are crossing fingers! She’s shaping up to be a great addition. Since we already have a Wyandotte roo, I need to plan appropriately. Either way, she’s not going anywhere except maybe a newly built coop. Thanks all!

Pullet
Leakage is odd but the "patridge" pattern coming thru lends to a female trait.
Our 11 week old EE pullet combs are the same size so I'm confident you have an egg layer.

Looks like a pullet to me. A couple of my girls tails came in like that before they bushed out. 12 weeks is too young for true sickle feathers in my admittedly limited experience.

Yes as others have said looks pullet, which I'm learning for my EEs lol but in the wonky tail feather, we have a black Australorp that has heavily curved tail feathers that look like sickles but she definitely lays eggs lol she's pretty! I like her colors!
