Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I ordered 12 pullets and 4 straight run from hatchery. I have 2/12 roosters from my pullets so far. I still have 1 black Ameracauna I'm trying to figure out; I'm suspecting it's a rooster too due to its redder comb. Only 1 roo from my 4 straightrun chicks. I need to call the hatchery about their margin of error being over the 10% mark.

Here is my Ameracauna next to the Easter egger with the giant comb. The EE's comb is big, but still not as red as my other two 100% obvious Roo's (different breeds). So that is definitely more than 10% margin of error. I also have an Ameracauna a hen with a weird beak. It's not scissored, but still not right. I'm sure it's pretty difficult to find good homes for Roosters. I guess I'll wing it and see how it goes.

I have two chicks that I'd like thoughts on, please! One is a lavender orphington and the other I am not sure, an EE maybe? I was told they were 10 weeks old but I'm thinking more like 5....

It's still too early to tell, but both look like pullets so far. Yes, your little mystery bird is definitely an EE, and a pretty one!
I agree, they look more like 5 weeks to me too.

Thank you!! I sure hope they are both pullets. The EE was so unique, I had to have her! I'm excited to see what she looks like with all her adult feathers in.

Yes I saw your pic and that is what had me thinking mine was an EE too! I wonder what she is going to look like... maybe a blue laced!?

The guy in charge of the poultry at my local feed store says they get more sexed EE cockerels returned than any other breed. It may be that they are just harder to vent sex for some reason... perhaps more breed variation. On 2 separate occasions, I have bought 2 sexed pullet EEs to join my laying flock. Both times, one of the EEs was a cockerel. 50% accuracy for me! :(

I have 4 Easter Egger chicks, exactly 6 weeks old in these photos. One white, one silver, and two brown (let's call the one with more red on the head/hackles #1 and the one with tan/more variegated color #2).

Gender opinions, please? Thank you!

I really appreciated the help and education from Wishing 4Wings when I posted pics of my 4 EE chicks at age 6 weeks.

I thought I'd post updated photos at almost 10 weeks. I have a fairly good idea of gender at this point but would appreciate confirmation!

I'd be happy to post additional pictures if needed. Thank you!

I agree with you. White one is the only cockerel with the thick red comb. I sure do like the silver. Such a pretty color! I bet she will get an even prettier pattern as she develops. Now I have to go back and see if I made any predictions and if I was accurate!

Yes, your predictions were spot on. The only pullet you thought might be male was Brown #2, and I think the 6 week photo made her comb look wider than it actually was. When I followed your advice about inspecting her comb, it really only had one ridge. Thanks again!
