Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Does anyone have any thoughts on my 4 week old EE's: Here is the first one(above) that I suspect is a pullet. Single comb right now and starting to get salmon colored feathers on breast.

Here is the second one that I think is a ROO. He has very big legs and feet and is much bigger than other chicks. His comb also developed 3 ridges very early and is bigger than the others. However, he hardly has any tail feathers. He has been slow to feather also.

One more of the second one:

Here is the third one. I am not sure about he/she, but he/she does have a 3 ridge comb already. Not sure if that means anything or not. This chick also has very developed tail feathers.

Any thoughts? I have these 3 along with 8 Red Sex Links. I have noticed that the EE's are scared of me for some reason, but the Red Sex Links are all over me.

I think I agree on #1 probably being a pullet and #2 being a cockerel. The comb on the last one looks pretty developed as well. Hope you wanted roos or that I am wrong

Too early.

Thanks Bruce for your opinion. I agree with you also. I will keep one rooster, but the other one wi l have to be re-homed. I think the first Roo may end up with prettier feathering. Anything else I should look for when trying to determine sex?

I agree that it's too early. However, the first one has a salmon breast so I would say pullet. The middle one does strike me as more rooster-ish. And the last one could go either way, I've had both roos and pullets look like that at 4 weeks.

EE's are definitely a flightier breed, more like a leghorn than a heavy heritage chicken. Sex links are a light weight chicken but are extremely friendly just naturally.

I bought a couple EE's this year, and am starting to have my doubts on the sex of a couple of them.

These two were bought at the feed store as Amerucana's (I figured EE's) They are almost 4 weeks old.

#1

This one was feathering in grey, but now has redish on the shoulders and chest.

#2

This one feathered in white, but now has "strawberry blonde" patches.

I also wanted to share my almost 5 week old EE from Mc Murray hatchery. She looks just like a bunch of the other chicks on here. I wonder if the hatcheries are using the same breeds to make EE's?

Thought I should show off my 3 Week Old Easter Eggers... Not particularly asking for sexing help, though it'd be nice - I know it's too soon to tell. I really just want to get out what pretty birdies they are

Here's the littlest of the bunch - Rosemary.

This is Ophelia!

Pretty girl - Sapphire.

Adele! Bossy little chick she is; doesn't care much for being handled.

Shaniqua is easily the chick in charge of my flock!

Last but certainly not least is Peaches! She's a sweet chick.

Thank you!

The top two have cockerel coloring with those dark patches on the wings. The last one has typical pullet coloring, but watch out that it doesn't start to develop any odd patches of color. Give them a few more weeks.
