Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Ok, so my EE chicks are about 3 1/2 weeks old now. I noticed today that I can already see the start of a red comb on some while some are still completely smooth and pale. Is this safe to assume these are cockerels or do I need to wait a few more weeks to be positive?

I think they're still pretty young. At that age the shape of the comb (3 ridges or rows of peas) is more often a way to tell, but not a sure thing. Post some pics if you can.

Both of my 12 week EE's have a single comb forming. No color yet, and no swelling. Brown eggs? I posted

pics of these chicks a couple weeks ago. Thanks again!

From what I can see they look like pea combs. The females form a single ridge down the center, which will grow wider when they approach point of lay. You should get some green eggs in another couple of months.
Here's a typical pullet comb at 8 weeks. Since EEs are mixed to various degrees, the combs will sometimes have modified forms.

I am new to raising chickens. Can someone explain the EE egg color to me based on type of comb and are there any other indicators that would suggest brown eggs vs. colored eggs? I have 5 EE pullets, I bought 6, but I have a handsome cockerel in the bunch. Any help is greatly appreciated. They are 12wks old
