Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

72Lark, I think it would have been easy to mistake this bird, when younger, for a female because you usually see the red wing patches, which this guy is lacking. He's a gorgeous color and already has the makings of a beautiful tail. Any chance you can keep him?

New member here. New to chickens in general. If anyone wants to help me play the gender guessing game, I have some photos of our loveable, dog-like chicken. (downloaded into my profile albums) I made the mistake of becoming attached to our science project, then learned that backyard hens are legal here. (but not Roosters) The coop is just about built, and we're wondering if our favorite chick will be allowed to live there.

Yup, between the comb and the dark red on the wings it looks like a little cockerel. Too bad you can't keep him.

Oh, and

When should EE roosters start crowing? I've figured that all five of my babies we'd hatched this past spring were roosters. Of the three older ones, one has been crowing for a week. The other two have not yet. No idea why as their father and uncles are all happily crowing around them and I'm sure they should be able to "sing along" with them by now.

I agree with you, and her rooster is gorgeous! I would love to see pictures when he is fully mature!

mine started to crow at 10 weeks. he is now almost 12 weeks old and only crows when let out of the coop. he is our only rooster. I am sure I am being nieve and optimistic to think that is the only time he will crow, but I have my fingers crossed!

Ok I have some babies that are about 3 weeks old now. My friend got some hatching eggs from someone who said they were a mix of Ameraucana and EE. Here are pics. Anyone want to play the guessing game with me.
I sure hope have more females since I already have a roo and want them for eggs. Fingers crossed!
