Most EEs are bred from Ameraucana (sometimes Araucana) stock, and the gene for blue shells is usually passed down with the pea comb gene because those genes sit very close together on the chromosome. While it can and does happen, it is rare for the genes to be inherited separately.

The only other blue shelled layers I know of are Cream Legbars and U of A Blues (a university project that crossed Leghorns with blue Ameraucanas to produce a blue, straight combed, highly productive blue egg layer). Either of these breeds, though relatively uncommon, could be used to create a straight combed EE. Can you contact the breeder to see what breeds were used?
