Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

My guy is awesome 4 months and just starting to sound like a teen boy. He is good with his girls, let's us pick him up, eats from our hands. Just skittish enough . The stories I have been reading about some Roosters are scaring e! He pays no mind to my kids, cats or dog. I hope he stays a happy man. I pray he doesn't use his voice that often. This may sound stupid but I'm new to this. Is it normally as the sun rises they use there voice?

I have two roosters in different parts of the yard, so they can't see each other, but they can hear each other. They both crow throughout the day, apparently randomly for no reason I can see. They also seem to crow sometimes in response to each other, and in response to the rooster down the road from us. I don't really notice them crowing more at a certain time of the day; they do it when the mood hits them. I don't find it to be a problem. It's a much more pleasant sound to me than many of the others I hear around here. I was going to try and give you an idea, and count their crows, but they've apparently decided to stop. No noise from any of them in the last 10 minutes. Just before that they were singing their songs back and forth to each other, but I wasn't really conscious of it then, so I'm not sure how long it had been going on for.

I'm new to roosters, and my oldest boy is only 7 months, so I haven't experienced it yet, but I'm told they hit a sort of puberty at some point, and a lot of roosters turn aggressive then. I was told to make sure they understand that I am the boss, before that happens to keep them from turning aggressive. Time will tell.

I have been told Lillith is a Lyle! I am in the process of re homing as I cannot have Roos. Do you all believe that is correct. 6 weeks old.

Oh yes, no doubt on that guy.

Agree, he looks like a cockerel.

I was wondering if it is really that hard to sex easter eggers? It seems like a LOT of people buy pullets that end up being cockerels. Or are the hatcheries throwing the boys in the shipments to the stores in order to get rid of them?

I got them at Orscliens. They were beside a batch of straight runs. They also let people pick them up so some kiddo could have put him in with the pullets. I should have known because he was so colorful as a new chick even!

Ok sry have some more question.at what age can they fertilize eggs? And will he fertilize all 5 of they? Can u tell the difference between a fertilize and nonfertilize?
they can fertilize at around 5 months. 5 to 1 is a perfect ration for fertilized eggs. He only needs to mate with them one time for the eggs to be fertilized for at least 1 month. Except of course, they like to mate with the hens EVERY day. Some people say there is a white dot in the yolk of a fertilized egg but i don't really know.

My friend's step dad is a chick sexer (semi retired). He claims 98% accuracy and I don't doubt it -- the guy trained for years in Japan as a young man and has done this his whole life. Back when he started, it was a high-pay, high-demand, lots of travel gig. And now, he can't seem to leave because they keep begging for any time he can work. But I have to wonder what happens when his generation retires? Are there people in their twenties willing to spend years learning the art or are they all convinced it's as easy as the video on You Tube makes it seem? I suspect that the accuracy is declining with the loss of guys like him and that hatcheries keep the overall average up with their sexlinked hybrids that can be accurately sexed by anyone who isn't colorblind.

That's very true.
Boy, wouldn't it be nice to have a friend who could sex chicks for you? Especially 98% accuracy.

The chicken guy at our feed store says they get more returned cockerels on the sexed EEs than any other breed. I was thinking that perhaps hatchery EEs are harder to sex because of greater variation and inconsistent breeding.

The hatchery here doesn't do sexing on their 'heritage' breeds they just started sexing things like RIR's and Barred Rocks, Of course the sex links have always been available sexed.

I could not get my EE's sexed, straight run only.

98% accuracy is pretty darn good! Most of the 20 year olds these days don't want to learn a trade or work. Maybe they think their parents will support them forever. If there was a hatchery in my neck of the woods I'd totally take up a new career sexing chicks. I hear the worker can make over $1000 daily.

Sex links are awesome (when you get pullets)! The store actually sold me a black sex link male. I doubt they ordered those from the supplier so I'd have to say the hatchery threw them in the shipment as "extras" somehow.
