Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

ITA w/polarbear on the pics for afreeman0405.

The blue gal is the only one that gave me pause because I've seen a few males hide past 9 weeks but there is no red on the wing/back and the comb doesn't appear to be growing so I'll say most likely female.

ALL of them but the blue one? gah! I hope not. I am waiting until eggs or crowing to figure out what to do with them.

Looking like it may be a girl imo. Going on 5 weeks now:

And by far the friendliest in my flock including my silkies...

Are you sure about the age? That is some seriously slow feathering for six weeks! The most important part of the wing isn't filled yet so I'd give it another week or two but it looks promising for pullet so far.

just double checked and it's 5 not 6. I have a few at different ages and got mixed up :)

I didn't mean to be disrespectful.....all I meant was that, as far as I've been able to tell, the only way to know if an EE is a pullet or a cockerel is to do the proverbial "wait until it lays or crows." I must be denser than most. Seems every time someone determines the sex of an EE by color or comb or patches or whatever, there's an exception and I get confused all over again. So after posting pics of mine and getting a consensus (which was about half and half) I've simply decided that I'm going to be doing well to get it right half the time and that's based on guesses rather than certainty. I do apologize.
No need for apology. You are NOT dense. You, too, will be an expert after hatching and raising a few flocks of EEs. Also, going back and reading the previous 600+ pages will definitely help, too.

Thank you! I did miss the other half of that post. But I'm going to cross my fingers and toes that Molly and Martha are girls, but prepare my 5 year old for the fact they will most likely be going to freezer camp. The hatches up here were male dominant this year. Depending on numbers of actual females I will probably order some dual purpose pullets next year from a hatchery or breeder.
