Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Here's another chick with the same weird comb. This one was a female. Don't know what to call this type of comb.

Almost-a-pea comb.

I was taking another look at your 3rd chick and saw the color coming in on the wing that you mentioned. There also seems to be dark coming in on the chest and around the neck, so I'm thinking this is probably another cockerel. They're all so cute. I wish it was easier to keep roosters.

It is hard and usually not very accurate to "feather" or "wing sex" mixed breed chicks. Wing sexing depends on the presence or absence of the slow feathering gene (K), and with randomly mixed breed birds it is very difficult to know if they have it or not.

Could that be a cushion or walnut comb??
Be very interested if anyone knows for sure!

Any one care to guess the sex of these 3. The first two pictures were made to show combs and leg thickness to another thread. The last picture I'm hoping is a girl but with those feathers I'm not 100% sure.

How old are these? The first is feeling like a boy. The comb looks like it has three rows and looks plump and red. It could be male.
Number two has what looks like a rose comb and wattles, I'm not sure it is an EE, could be a distant mix, but the long shiny tail and coloring are mighty pretty, which is often also a sign of a boy.
The third does seem to have comparatively thin legs, and though the color is generally orange, it doesn't scream boy at me. I would guess you have an unbearded ginger EE hen.

That's pretty much what I was thinking, Boy Boy Girl.

Lady Cluck, can you describe" Ginger"..I've heard the term used, but have not been able to decipher if it is a breed or a color or???

I'm guessing they are about 13 weeks old, give or take a week or two. I got them as little fuzzy babies from the local feed store. They were in a big tub labled Amerucana and I know that's not right lol. All of my EEs are red like that except the first pictured and one that has the normal pullet coloring and patterns. The first picture does has a comb with 3 rows. Its always stayed fairly close to the head and always yellow until just here recently. And it has absolutely no waddle development. #2 does have a rose comb and has all the right feathers and coloring of a rooster but has teeny tiny thin legs lol. These are the most confusing chickens I have ever had lol.

:p It's country folk slang for an animal that is very orange, I have a ginger cat and a few ginger hens... I'd sure love a ginger silkie. Don't know if it's an official APA color, but a lot of people use it to describe their animals' color.

That's what I thought, but I have read of "Ginger Layers", "Ginger Rangers", "Ginger OEGB's" ...etc.

Thank you for all the help! Both are indeed pullets.
Can I get some help with gender on a few members of my first flock? I bought as "Ameracauna", but later was told theyre EE. These 2 are 15.5 weeks, male or female??

As of today, at 22 weeks, all 3 of my EE are laying. Pat, pictured on top layed my first egg. A beautiful green! And Jackie Chan, the black one on bottom, lays the blue. Fuzzy not pictured layed her first today, another green!
