Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Really having trouble sexing one of my EE's. Posted pics on another thread and got abt 50/50 as 2 which it was, with varying reasons. I was told this thread was a great resource. Here are 2 of my EE's- the 1st is not in ?, but we hatched them jst a day apart in case that helps.


This is our Roo, Adrian- 7wks old (not in ?)



Here is one of Adrian's siblings- Darcy- def in ? and also

You're right, Adrian is definitely a cockerel. Darcy looks like a pullet! (Explanation for thinking Darcy is a pullet: comb is a little wide but not tall or red at all, head and neck are the same color--not different colors as would pave the way for hackle feathers in a cockerel, coloring down the body is pretty even and consistent, legs are very slim.)

^That's what I think they all are. They're all so gorgeous, I especially love the last cutie!

Here is my 8 1/2 week old fingers crossed girls. My neighbor things they are Roos, please tell me he is wrong. The Blue/Grey is the one that is really in question. So I didn't take that many that are not blurry of the partridge color.

The posture and patches at the shoulder screams on #1 cockerel, but that comb is really pale in the photos. If that color continues to spread out it may be a pullet but, I wouldn't get my hopes up too high. #2 all pullet no doubt.

Hope they are both Pullets, specially the grey, its my favorite. They are the only 2 chicks that I actually bought, and they came from a lady who stated they are Hatchery sexed Pullets, I've had horrible luck with chicks this year, and so far we have re-homed 5 Roos, and I still have a few here. So I'm going to really cry that the only 2 chicks that I really wanted is going to turn out to be a Boy. Oh well, both the combs are really small, hardly any rise and they are very, very pale, the only time I see any color is if they are all wild up over something.

I love Adrian's little nubby tail! No mistaking that cockerel comb.

Darcy looks like a pullet to me too. The comb is very pale and has a low profile. I see why the saddle feathers look suspicious, but 7 weeks is too early for those to come in. Some females get longer drooping feathers in this area, but they are not sharply pointed nor shiny/glassy looking like the saddle feathers of males.

I also think both are pullets. Most cockerels would have more color in the comb by 8 weeks. The blue has gold coming all over and has very slender legs. #2 has the coloring that is always a pullet, so no doubt for her!

Thanks, you guys are making me feel better. I never was questioning them, until my stupid neighbor came over to see the 5 week old Silkies, I have 4 and I'm only keeping 2 pullets, if there are even 2. I've had the worse luck. But he came to see them, he thinks he might want a pullet if I have more then 2.
