Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I hope not. :( From what I've read if he lives he'll always be a carrier and have to be kept separate from the flock...

Question. I know EE's are mutts and there's no real standard but do EE Roo's get a full tail? I don't know if my guy is molting out his baby tail feathers or what but right now he just has a stumpy tail of green feathers.

I love him regardless but just wondering about it...

If he had a baby feather tail and it all fell out at once, that's normal; he's just a fast molter. The new feathers take a while to finish growing and the tail looks stumpy in the earliest stage of regrowth. The new feathers will be larger and he may get his sickles in.

I would try yogurt with a bit of electrolytes added to it. See if he'll try it on his own and if not maybe put a little in his beak so he gets a taste. My chickens become raptors when yogurt shows up so hopefully he'll at least try to eat some of it...otherwise I'm not sure what else to try.

You can also soak their pellets in Acidopholus milk. Get over it and force feed him before he dies. When an animal is very sick they can lose their self preservation instincts. I once had to force feed a cat with pneumonia for 3 days on Campbell chicken soup before she perked up enough to eat alone. You have to get some food and liquid into the body or it WILL shut down. Quit being squeamish. you don't have much time. A human will dehydrate and die in three days without water. A chicken is much smaller and it won't take as long for it to happen.

Once you put the pinch of moistened food in the pack of their beak they will swallow it and you will have gotten both food and liquid in their system with out choking them . After you have about five or six pinched down they should feel a bit more thirsty and be more likely to drink on their own. If now keep feeding about six pinches hes every hour. Use a sharpened stick to pry the beak open with so you do not have to press so hard with you fingers.

Posting some pictures of my June 12th hatch at 6 weeks old. They are EE crosses. I have guesses on their genders but I'd like some more experienced opinions.

This is #1 , pretty sure its male

#2 Its very hard to tell these two apart, pretty sure this one's a male too

This is my pretty red/white/&black EE, boy ?

A girl!

Keeping my fingers crossed, I think my blue one is a girl!
