Well, it sure does look like a cockerel, though I would expect the comb to be pinker. Maybe just a little late on that. Not sure what's making me hesitate, something about the dark red on the chest makes it look like it could be an overall pattern?

The others are probably right about it being a for sure cockerel. I'd love it if you could post back when he's a couple of weeks older to show how the red coloring develops.

I will! It has almost all things you would look for on a cockerel, just not so much the comb. I would love it to be one to go with my other EEs to hatch some eggs out next year. He is beautiful so far!

I had meant this post to help other people tell whether they had girls or boys. I just wanted to show how they were feathering in differently and some tips for telling boy/girl in this breed. Sulo is a really common EE rooster color, and Munk is a somewhat common hen color for the breed

just trying to help others heh
Thank you for your input....gives me some ideas while watching mine come along..... they are going on 3 weeks now and are getting a little noisy! LOL.....The funny part is that I am keeping them in what was my son's room ...right next to where DH and I sit watching TV....(he doesn't even know I've got them!!! Got some BCM and silkies coming in the end of this week! He does know about them.. He is not a "chicken kind of man"....soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....He's going to hear these most any day!! Send me a prayer ! LOLOLOL......They were barely 1 1/2 weeks here.

Are they pets? They look nice, thanks for the pictures!
Pretty much as far a pets.. I do like having the eggs to share with neighbors...maybe at some point I will be able to sell them just to friends.. They are getting a day on the deck today.. in their tupperware container. They are funny to watch as they go play around in the sunny part then go over to eat/drink and nap in the shade.. Hubby cal;s on his way home so I will get them back into their room before he gets back here.. My sizzle roo is meandering around the yard. This is his first day free ranging.. I worry about him but he was given to me and was used to free ranging before.. So unhappy penned up in a small run.

Now about 6.5 weeks and still confusing! The comb is three rows and way larger and more red than the other EEs of the same age.

Well, gee, hasn't really changed all that much except for the brown coming in.  I'm not confident about this one either way.  S/he's about 5½ weeks in the latest pics?  The comb is pretty large, but is still pullet colored.  Coloring is...  uhm...   confusing.  Think we're going to have to wait another week or so.  Hope you can post again because I'm really curious about this one.  Until then, we can call it Pat.  :D     (Just for the record, I'm leaning toward cockerel, but really  :idunno )

What does everyone else think?  Patrick or Patricia?

Not that you asked, but this little barred bird is a cockerel also. (Assuming it's a similar age to the EEs)

Quote: That red comb is the final indicator for a cockerel. (He already had the wide comb and patchy color pattern.) The change is pretty clear, and since you have the other pale pullet combs for comparison, you can really see the difference. It's a Patrick. Thanks for posting the update! He's cute. Can you keep him? Does he have blue eyes?
