Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I thought I share some pictures of my beloved disabled EE rooster who started out with a typical female feather pattern and very small and light one row comb. For a while, I thought he was a she.

Wuzzy - a few days old sleeping on my daughter's leg.

Here he is about 4 weeks old

Here he is 5 weeks old, next to his brother who is clearly a cockerel with a big 3-row comb.

Here is Wuzzy at 2 months old. Some red tint started to show up on his feathers

His light grey/white head turn red and black. Comb is still very flat and small.

Based on the feathers, I know he was a he for sure, despite the small single comb.

Here is Wuzzy at 9 months fully feathered with a big red comb.

My beautiful Wuzzy all grown up.

Wuzzy's legs got weaker and weaker as he got larger and heavier. Eventually, he could no longer skip or hop. His legs got worse and he lost the strength to keep balance. I had to put him in a cardboard box so he could lean to the side to eat. Then, he got even weaker and had trouble holding his body up. I had to put him in a sling to keep his head up. Last week, my beloved Wuzzy passed away. My daughter cried because he was her favorite chicken. We buried him under our apple tree. We hope he is now in chicken's heaven with two good legs.

What beautiful coloring he ended up having! I would have thought him a definite pullet early on. So sorry Wuzzy did not live a longer life, but at least the life he had was good, thanks to your loving care.

Not many chickens in this world are so fortunate.

I'm hoping to keep him! He has grayish green eyes. All of the other EEs we got this year are dark so I'm curious what their progeny would look like. He seems like a nice boy so far but this will be our first time having any roosters. We have more roos than we can keep so I hope this guy will stay nice!

I'm hoping someone can help me. I picked this little cutie out of a bantam bin. Not sure of the age. Is it an Easter egger bantam? Boy or girl?

I need help sexing one of these. The dad was an ee/cochin mix and the mom was an ee hen. They came from green eggs. The blue one has a definite 3 row pea comb...I know he's a rooster. But his hatch mate has a pea comb that seems pretty big to me. They're 4 1/2 weeks and I'm really hoping the black one is a pullet. I had to help it hatch and it almost didn't make it.

I've got one that looks almost exactly like him. I think mine may be a little more ginger color, I call him my Ginger Red rooster.

It's hard to say because of the influence of the Cochin straight comb. Leaning toward cockerel, but you should only have to wait another week or so to know for sure, so we'll keep fingers crossed for a pullet.

This chick looks to be around 2-3 weeks. It is really too early to know for sure. Please post updated pictures when it is around 7-8 weeks.
