I had quite a few black ones hatch and 3 with brown reddish faces and grey bodies. 2 yellow. I want to keep the 6 EE's if possible and if they are pullets. What would be my first signs? Tail? Comb ? Coloring ? They are coming close to two weeks old. I know it's to early. I just want to handle them ask much as possible! I'm trying to get my flock established the way I want. Temperament wise. Any info will help! I'm going to post baby pics. Thank you

I give up the pictures keep moving on me. Anyways, with my Roo a few posts back and the looks of the mommas. Does he carry a black gene ? I'm curious what the black ones may end up looking like and what's signs for cockerels? Thank you! And sorry for all the post and them being mixed up!

Those chicks are a little too young. Usually the 1st signs start around 4-6 weeks. Please post pics again when they're older & I'm sure you'll get some good predictions.

Until then look for:
Males get pinkish comb, 3 rows (if pea comb), larger (if single comb) Female combs stay pale & narrow.
Sometimes males have a slower feather growth very early on (females may have longer wings/tails)
I tried feather sexing (wing sexing) & it never worked with mine

Around 4-6 weeks when all the feathers are in, look for even patterns in the females & for males = brick red patches on the chest &/or wings
That's also when the male combs may darken to pink.
The legs may look thicker on a male (but my lines all have thick-ish legs)
Males may begin to stand more upright to look taller (leggy), while the females look kind-of roundish in their stance.

Easter Eggers are a big mix. I had 2 golden beauties produce a strange-looking, chocolate brown chick. There are so many different genes at play.

Thank you! I have one that has a reddish patch on it's wings. I'll look for signs in a few weeks. I didn't expect 9/10 to hatch. This will be Intresting. I'm excited to see the colors they end up with.

Anyone who has had black EE's as chicks if you have any pictures of them as hens I would love to see! Just to get a idea of what they may look like. Thanks again !

The color of the chick down doesn't always relate to the adult color.
Here's my ugly, tail-less chick; she had no comb for the longest time. She grew into a nice Olive egger.

Today

Here's another surprise EE.
Yellow chick grew patterned feathers

then some solid areas - but golden, not "red"

Here she was as those partridge patterns changed to solid

Here she was at 24 weeks(middle)

Ok my feed store and no more EE :( so these r what my daughter picked out

3 white leghorns and 3 black something sry can't remember....

Off topic, but omelet lays some pretty eggs!
Thanks. They're not as dark now but still olive. Her dad was an EE that hatched from a pink egg & Mom (a true mutt) laid brown eggs. The army green egg was a surprise. Many of the roo's offspring now lay blue, green, or olive eggs, so I'm fairly certain he carried that blue egg gene.

Maybe Black Australorp? They're popular b/c they lay a lot of eggs.
Congrats! Chicks are fun. Wishing you many pullets. (Unless they were supposed to be sexed - then all pullets!
