From a feed store.
Just wanted to make sure because last time I got pullets ended up with 2 roosters and three hens.
He said they were all pullets but you know how that goes...

Yeah, especially at the feed stores. The hatchery might be accurate 90%+ but once they are at the store who knows how many are picked up from one bin and put back in another? Ever buy greeting cards? Too much work for people to put one back where it came from if they change their mind.

Oh the horror!! Some of us crazy chicken people actually care what they are really getting!? Umm hello?!! Haha! I Was so mad when I realized with my first batch that the one I picked from was labeled Araucanas and once I got on BYC I was like Oh No They Did NOT! I obviously had an EE-- those people only made themselves look dumb by selling chicks and not even knowing what they were talking about!! So there... Rant over

I love my feed store. They have a special chick room just for the season, and customers are not allowed to handle chicks. An employee takes them out for inspection and approval. Not 100% foolproof of course, but they do try to limit the incidence of brooder mix up and disease transfer. I avoid some other feed stores during chick days. One time saw rampant pasty butt and filthy water. You would think the chain stores would have protocol for proper care, or at least someone working there with a little knowledge and common sense.

This is the way to do it!



On delivery, chicks are not sold until the following day to give them a chance to recover from shipping.
