Pretty sure he's a cockerel now. Thanks to everyone who weighed in. Now we just have to decide what to do about it....

8 Weeks old... need some help, pullets or roos??
These ones need another week or so. The red doesn't quite look the right shade for rooster red, and it looks like it's more a part of the overall pattern. And the combs are still very small and pale. Just not sure about these two, and it's not often that I get stumped.

I am going to side with Junebuggena on this one....the red is subdued and also on their back....though one has pretty thick legs the other is dainty looking......I agree that they are still not positive roos.

@amytomaz I would weigh in that both look like cockerel to me. I don't know how proven the theory is, but when I've seen more of a barring pattern in the primary wing feathers and then see red coming in, those have always been cockerels in my cases. Could be different here, but based on the patterns, I think cockerels.

That's not barring. It's juvenile partridge penciling. And it has no connection to gender.

they have been twins since day one, could never tell them apart :)

Your twins are a perfect example of why this thread is so interesting. Please post an update in a week or two. I really want to see how they turn out. It was the black coming in on the breast that tipped me toward cockerels. Never have seen a bird with coloring like that. They are beautiful!

I love the color variations in the Easter Eggers! Such beautiful birds in this thread. I've been stalking it and waiting until mine were just a little older before posting them up in here. I got 15 chicks earlier this year, and 5 were feed store "araucanas"... aka ee

They were supposed to be sexed pullets (yeah right lol) and the woman who worked there had many chickens of her own and was comfortable vent sexing. Still... I'm kinda going

with a couple of them. Roos or not, they will have a home as long as they behave.

Anyhow, here are my 10 week old Easter Eggers.

Erm... I'll leave out her name since it's a play on words which signifies her superior status in the flock. lol Behind her is "Priscilla"

Another of the same pullet. Australorp roo behind her. She is one of only two who can boss him around.

Blondie

Priscilla... or Broscilla? The comb is redder than everyone else's (I keep telling myself it's just flushing lol) and likes to tell the Australorp roo where he can go, and s/he often does it talons first.

Cinnamini. Always been different poor gal. Hardly a rump/tail on her. Has to be a throwback to the araucana breeding in her. Very pale comb. I'm thinking all girl on her.

Professor. Hubby named her. Sorry, realized that I don't have a full body shot of her. But she has a pretty face. :)
