Here are pictures of my EEs around the same age that both turned out to be roosters for comparison.I’m a novice by anyone’s standards but referring to the sage advice that I’ve received I’d guess they are all pullets. Basing this on comb color/development in comparison to their age and also the color, pattern, and uniformity of their feathering.
Agree @Wishing4Wings ?
As promised is are some progress pictures of my EE rooster! And some throwbacks from when he was younger and we were still trying to figure out gender on this thread. It’s crazy to see the progression. He started off being almost chipmunk in his coloring to now when he’s black, green, rooster red, orange, white, and pretty much every shade in between and with gray feathered legs.Yes, those are the saddle feathers. I always think they look like glass. He's going to be a very handsome rooster. Oh, and the bird is too!![]()
A bit more standoffish than when he was younger but I don’t think that’s a bad thing and I expected it. Still very curious and the first one to run over to where I am when I come to let them out of the coop but more skiddish once there’s no hardware mesh between us. I’ve always been less handsy with him in recent weeks per your suggestion. He has a healthy fear of people but isn’t aggressive (yet). I know that could still change but so far so good. He’s 16 weeks as of Tuesday. He’s still besties with the BO roo but definitely the beta. He's cute. How's his temperament?
If you could get a closer picture of the comb straight on, I might be able to tell. 3rd pic is not clear enough.I have a 5 week old black and white EE (possibly a “Green Queen” EE). Any insight on gender? Seems to be more upright with bigger feet than the chicks I know are pullets but not as much as those I know are cockerels. It’s doesn’t have any red or copper.
These are the best I have on my phone. I’ll try and get better pictures tomorrow. Thank you!If you could get a closer picture of the comb straight on, I might be able to tell. 3rd pic is not clear enough.
That's a tricky one. I suspect a male, but am not sure. Maybe have to wait another week. These are the best I have on my phone. I’ll try and get better pictures tomorrow. Thank you!
