Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

yes and no on the combs, some of my girls have three rows as well and lay great eggs. At that age I would expect to see a deep red to the comb. Also look at the coloring how even it is and the feathers how they are rounded.

Notice the feather drooping just before the tail on this EE, how they are pointy. Also notice the dark red flashing on the shoulders (darker than the orangish tone found elsewhere) both are signs of a Roo.

Now look at the blue one (second bird back) how the feathers near the tail are rounded, and all over even coloring. This is an EE hen, I can show others as well if you want.

Thanks dandydoodle for trying to help determine if my EE is a hen or rooster. I am new to chickens and already had the blow of learning my beloved Silver Laced Wyandotte is a rooster and now I must find a home for him as I can't have roosters in my small town. I am enclosing a better photo of the EE now in question. If she turns out to be a rooster, too, I will have one sad little 11 year old to console, not to mention my own heartache! By the way, the bird in question is 9-10 weeks old.

This thread has been immensely educational. I have three EEs that I'm watching pretty close right now. From what I've read my favorite is probably a roo. I'll get some pics to share with the class and see what you all think.

Thanks so much everyone for your replies. I think she is a pretty bird, too! I am relieved it looks like she is a hen. The Silver Laced Wyandotte baby who we are thinking is a rooster, I think I may have found 2 homes for her/him. Good homes, which thrills me. I think I will give it a couple of weeks first to make absolutely sure she is a he before I part with him . I would hate to have to part with 2 of my new birds (half my flock!) so this really makes my day to know you all think the EE is a hen. Great forum here.

Great thread! And if I am reading and understanding it correctly, then Dragon (5 weeks) is a pullet like she's supposed to be. That doesn't mean I trust myself, so if anyone can confirm...
