A cockerel's red, as debid said, is more of a brick/bright mahogany color.

Oh good. I kinda thought it looked like the usual girlie colors, but it had enough difference that I thought I would check. I love my EE girls. =) Of course, anything can happen - if it turns out to be a boy (like the last one I posted here that fooled everyone LOL) I'll update.

Solid colors are always more challenging.

I was asked to post pics of my tan EE, Shannon. My beautiful Shannon started crowing today, he is definitely a cockerel. He was hatched Dec 4th.




Jill is on the left and is also an EE. She is a pullet. Shannon is on the right. Approx 3 weeks old.


Shannon is the tan one on the right. Jill is on the left. Another EE is Dave, (the one standing in the plate) he is a cockerel and is already crowing.

It has been about 4 weeks. I thought I would update with some pics and let everyone know all three are boys. The light one hasn't started rooing yet but, it is obvious he is a boy. You will see what I mean by the pics. :0) Sorry, I went a little pic crazy. They are turning out so pretty. The blue one has bright burnt red on his shoulders and in his hackle feathers. I think he is also going to have some pretty red feathers in his saddle feathers too. The splash is getting so pretty also. The little one is getting pretty two but, he is about 2 and half weeks behind the other two. :0) I also had to add a pic of my barn yard kitty too. He wanted in the pics so bad. To bad I now have to find homes for all these boys.

Thought I would add pics of my third little chickie, so everyone can see the changes going on in the feathering. Please, feel free to give me your guesses on his or her sex. His or her two flock mates after started practicing rooing. This one has not but, is a week and a half to two weeks younger then the others. I am really not seeing any red in its comb. What do you think???

Ok here's a few to guess on. These were all out of blue eggs, some were marked as araucana, some americauna, some EE. Except for the rumpless ones, I have no clue which are the EE's. One for sure roo in here for comparison.

These are all NYD chicks, so around nine weeks old. This first one.. No comb to speak of, but a little red showing.. Enough red to say this could be a roo or could this be a girl? (black one showing on the right is a boy LOL).




No comb to speak of on this one either. Not sure if EE or not.. I think girl? Or are these boy colors?





Last but not least.. fairly sure this one's an EE.. no comb to speak of yet.. girl?:

I think all three are girls. You would have more comb development by now, and they all have girly coloring. Girls get 'saddle feathers' too, they're just rounded. And I don't think pointed saddle feathers in boys even show up this early
