Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

My husband keeps insisting that Princess Beyonce (The name comes from the show Raising Hope) is a rooster... which we can't have. Anyone want to put this rumor to rest? (Please!) I am pretty fond of her

Welcome to BYC, Mandie! It's too early to tell, chickie is too young. Wait until it feathers out more, about 6-8 weeks old. If it is bossy with the others, it is just establishing pecking order, which isn't sex-related. HTH!

what do you all mean by Easter Eggers? Im new to this but trying to learn

Easter Egger is the term for what hatcheries, feedstores, and many local breeders call "Americanas" or "Americaunas" or even "Araucanas" - They're all false names and claims, as Easter Eggers are basically a form of blue, green, and sometimes brownish egg layer that does not conform to being a true purebred Ameraucana or Araucana. They're often hardly related at all, or crosses based from the purebred versions. Because most Easter Eggers are from hatchery stock, this thread focuses on the fact that most are duckwing-based in color, genetically, which allows experienced people to help sex Easter Eggers for others based on color.

Someone posted in another thread that my EE looks like a roo. Can anyone here tell? She (oh, please be a "she") is three weeks old. I bought my three birds out of the pullet bin. I only bought three - had no idea that they could have been incorrectly sexed. What do you think? I totally love my EE. She's one spunky chicken! She has the most personality of all of them. She's also the hardest for me to catch.

Right now it looks like a pullet. 3 weeks is a little early to say definitely one or the other though. Wait a couple more weeks -- 5 weeks is the earliest to be positive. 6-8 is the best time frame. Here's hoping you do have a pullet! :)
