its been a while since I have been here...my EE girls grew beautifully, but now, we have babies! I placed several of their eggs under my broody Australorps...I have 2 that just hatched, I am thinking chick #2 is a male, due to red feathers on his wings...can anyone help me out here, or is it really too soon? I also did the feather sexing and the 2 are different...I think chick #1 is a female...what say you!?
Chick #2, suspected roo
Chick #1, suspected girl, see her wings, you can see little pin feathers, under the rest of her wing. My avatar could be her mother...
My EE is 5 weeks old now. Is her sex obvious yet? Is she a pullet or roo? She dug a hole in the ground outside today and started dusting in it. Now, that was a sight to see! Sure looks uncomfortable to me.
These are pictures I took this afternoon of the chick whose Momma is EE and Roo is a Turken. Hatched 4/8/12. She is 1/2 the size of the other chicks Gracie is fostering that are 4 days older than her.
JoeG.... All of yours are looking like pullets. 10 weeks is a pretty good age to be able to tell -- males will have definite dark red/mahogany capes on their shoulders and most will have bigger, more developed combs. I'm not seeing any "warnings" of a male on any of yours.
RedBarnFarms... I'm with aoxa. The first looks like a pullet -- classic pullet pattern. The second, I'm not familiar with the color either. We'll leave that one to Illia.
