Ok. Thanks for the confirmation on the bantam...I was starting to question myself.

Bummer on the boys however. I guess I'll have to try again next year for blue(green) eggs. I bought them on a whim and for the novelty, because I certainly didn't need anymore eggs. I've already got enough eggs to be up to my eyeballs each week when they start laying in a couple more months. One thing I learned from this thread...I won't make any permanent decisions about them until I get a crow or an egg. (They still have such pale combs, it keeps the hope alive that they are female.) Now if they become a problem (crowing, fighting or excessively mating), I'm going to have to figure out what I want to do with them because I don't think I can go back to the family that I bought them from and trade (plus I still don't "see" the girl/boy difference unless it is the orange colored one like Iona posted above and I don't remember a bunch of them like that). Can't keep both since I already have one cockerel already and that would make 3 roos - although I guess I could keep one EE and have the other EE and the Barred Rock for supper (kind of hate to do that to the BR since I bought him knowing that he was a boy and I hoped he could help guard the flock and mate with my other 3 BRs (he'd probably do the 2 RIRs and 4 red links too

)).

I'm on a phone so I can't post pics. Could I email someone? I would like to see if I have learned enough to judge correctly. The pics I have would show a blue or grey bird with what I believe is being called salmon on the shoulders and throughout. I say female. The reddish color is dark, but not dark enough to be declared RED. The same on the white baby- not dark enough to be declared RED. Or here, I will post the pics on my profile, and hopefully someone will take a look? This is such a fun thread by the way, everyone playing a game really! Really fun!

Does anyone have an idea of what these white and red birds will end up as? I have guessed pullet, after reading, but the one with the grey tufts on its cheeks has me waffling....

So I was wondering if Easter Eggers have softer feathers? Just typing this sounds stupid, but I have an unidentified bird that I'm thinking might be easter egger that have feathers that are sooooooo soft! Is it just an incredibly soft bird or this a characteristic of EE? I think I just have to accept that I have a wonderfully mixed bird! Hehe. The black feathers on wings, back and tail shine green, blue and purple in the sun!

she looks like a dark bhrama EE'er, as for soft sounds like shes very healthy.. when mine are in top condition they feel like silk.. its always a fun challenge to me when I get a bird from someone else to get them in condition and silky too.. way to go on your EE'er

Thanks for the feedback. We've been watching this one grow and just wondering what kind of mix it was and what gender. At this point it's too much of a pretty bird to not keep...annnnd it's looking more and more like a 'she' so bonus!
