Maybe they really are pullets! Wouldn't that be great! Sexing birds from pics is certainly not an exact science. Of course, they could just be slow feathering in.

It would be awesome! I am so back and forth on them. Of course, like they say, we won't really know until they crow or lay an egg I just have no patience.
I will try and get some new pics tomorrow, if the weather cooperates.
When I looked at Groucho and Harpo's necks, it looks like all of their feathers have filled in. I didn't see any pin feathers. Camo still has a few random pin feathers, but they are sort spread out and not how the roo in the picture looks.
Oh, and Harpo's comb looks like it is even lighter colored pink than it used to be.

Ok so I finally took some pics of my very suspicious "Amerecauna pullet". She's definitely an EE. She is about 5 weeks old and she developed this pretty bright pink comb about a week ago! It's a single comb not a peacomb though. I also noticed recently that she developed one extra toe on one of her feet? She also has some specks and markings coming in near her face and on her head? Does she have silky in her maybe? I'm very confused? She looks very much like a little cockerel too! Her legs are very odd shaped, and pink? Oh ya she has some little sprouts of feathers on her legs that I also spottes recently! She has interesting/patchy coloring and marking and she has a lot of red... Anyone have thoughts? She seems like she may be causing trouble with my other EE and my Barred Rock pullets? She might be pecking at them etc.? Please help! Thanks!

Well, looks like you have a cockerel. Big red comb, thick legs, and dark red patches on wings.

Not sure I can help with the breed. Where did you get it? Nothing like an Ameraucana and he doesn't have many typical EE traits either (except coloring) so probably some sort of cross. The 5th toe is interesting. Is that how a 5 toed foot normally looks? (Not much experience with this.) Maybe part Salmon Favorelles(?) which have 5 toes and feathered legs (so maybe someone was confusing these with Ameraucanas due to the beards/muffs in common).

Looks like he's going to have very pretty coloring.

EE's usually have slate colored legs, muffs and pea combs. Your chick looks like it has pinkish legs. Could be a Speckled Sussex mix. Does look like a roo...very typical for roos to have slow feather development on the shoulders and head. They have thick legs and develope large combs very early. That's why you think it has some silkie in it. I don't think so. Keep posting pictures as he grows. Good luck.

Thanks guys! Ya I guess I'll have to wait and see what he/she turns out to be like! I want to fine out what she'll look like but I have to move her/him and the other 2 pullets outside with my older pullets this weekend! Should I go ahead and give her back? Should I wait till they move in with the others so it will be 3 against my other 2 pullets in the pecking order? This chick seeme to be beating up the others some? Hmm... what to do? Thoughts? Thanks!

I'd say your EE is a rooster. It looks a lot like my Olive Egger Rooster did at five weeks.

Here are updated pics, from today, of the "girls"...

Mork - calm and quiet




Mindy - very mellow. Normally hangs with Cher and one of the most outgoing.




Sonny - always on the bottom of the pile, follows what everyone else is doing




Cher - super dominant and very outgoing. She is the first one to check things out, eat, drink, and greet me. She was right next to me the whole time I was taking pictures, chatting with the chicken I was taken pics of.





Pearl - very loud when handled. She sounds like a seagull getting attacked by a cat.




Opal - pretty calm, just sort of does whatever everyone else is doing




Ruby - has been charging at the other babies a lot lately




Groucho - very quiet and shy, normally following Mindy and Cher around.




Harpo - hides behind everybody else, makes the softest tiniest peep ever.



This is the wing that the other chicks attacked. It has healed up nicely, and as you can see feathers are starting to come back in.


Camo - very flighty, bottom of the pack, normally hiding with Harpo. The only place there are still alot of pin feathers, is down the back and by its "ears".








Here are a couple of the youngest (7 wk old) group. They all have almost identical coloring, and really dark greyish black colored legs.

Midge - is super tiny. Maybe 1/2 the size of the other girls that she was supposedly hatched with. She can sit in my hand at 7 weeks old.

Mork, Mindy, Cher, Groucho, and Ruby are about 16 weeks old.
Sonny, Pearl, Opal, Harpo, and Camo are about 12 weeks old.

At 4 months, Groucho is a pullet for sure. Didn't realize she was that old.

For 12 weeks, both Harpo and Camo have me leaning toward pullet also, but still not sure. Both of them have really neat and unusual coloring which so often goes with the boys. At 13 weeks, my cockerel had very long saddle feathers (and was crowing!), but there's always individual variation. All things considered, I'd be more surprised if they were NOT pullets. How's that for decisiveness?

Everyone else is very girly. Looks like you're going to have a ton of eggs soon! You have a great flock with lots of variety. Some very pretty chickens! Let us know about any surprises.
