Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Roosters do cluck when they are not crowing, I have a lot that do, not just Ee's !
I will vote pullet. Coming up in the next few weeks your chickens may go thru a juvenile molt. My pullet had a tail feather like that right before she lost it...and other tail feathers. I think her comb would be larger and more developed if she was a he. Keep up informed.

Nice pictures everyone..I so love looking at the variety of these birds, so many different looking beautiful chicks....
Mine are now 20 weeks and 3 of the 10 are laying me blue eggs already, each
a different shade of blue and 1 has consistently been a double yolker, poor little girl..... I'm hoping all of them give me blue eggs....but ain't holding my breath, I will post some pictures as soon as I figure out who is laying what egg, they are sneaky and lay under the roosts then dust bathe and half cover them up. silly pullets....... my first baby layed her first egg at 19 weeks 2 days............ yahhhhhhhhhhh

That looks like a modified pea comb, not a single comb. She COULD lay green.
Love how she got her name. Very nice looking girl!
Oh and she looks close to laying

What is a modified pea comb?? Fingers crossed for green/blue eggs soon. I will love her no matter the egg color!

Comb genetics are fairly complex. When you mix birds with differing comb types, you can get some unusual looks that are sort of "in between". My mom's rooster had the boy version of your pullet's comb -- a raised, single ridge without any points. I wish I had a picture of it.

Ok, another total newbie here. We just picked up our 4 1/2 week old chicks this week but are confused about our Easter Egger. Of all the breeds we have (Australorp, Barred Rock, RIR and EE), this chick is the biggest and bossiest of the bunch. She's much more feathered out than the others. Do EE's usually mature earlier than other breeds? I think she's a girl based on her coloring but thought I'd get some opinions from chicken people who know way more than we do.

So, what's the verdict? Hoping she's a pullet!!!

Chicksbunsdogs, I hate to say it but I'm pretty sure that's a cockerel. The patterning is splotchy and the tail feathers are pointed and curling. It's not 100% for me yet but I'd be surprised if that one ended up a pullet.

And yes, my EEs feathered in very fast (even the cockerel).

Oh no! Say it isn't so! Any more votes on whether Pumpkin is a pullet or a roo?

We only just got the chicks three days ago from a friend who has about 25 other chicks. At this point, would it be ok for us to return this possibly male chick and get another one that we're more certain of being a hen? Is it ok to re-introduce a single new chick in with the four others we took home a few days ago? They were all shipped together from McMurray Hatchery and spent the first 4 weeks of their lives together. I'm thinking it's better to do this sooner rather than later whereas my husband thinks maybe we should take the wait and see approach. We absolutely cannot keep a rooster. Any advice is appreciated.

Chicksbunsdog - It does look like a roo. It has almost the exact coloring of my EE which turned out to be male. The red coming in on the shoulders and back are a pretty good indication.

I think mine here is older than your pic - this is him probably about 6 weeks. He is now 10 weeks old and has sickle and saddle feathers. The comb was larger and more of a darker pink color beginning about 5 - 6 weeks. Good luck! I'm keeping mine...lucky I can. He's not crowing yet.
