Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I see a few possible roos but none I feel confident in calling.  I personally think a lot of hens get mistaken for roos at this age.  The fact that a lot of these are crosses complicates things.  Your favorite appears to have a straight comb but not a worrysome one IMO.  If your birds indeed have wyandotte heritage they may also grow wattles and comb faster than "normal" or slow feather.  I think with all the dynamics you have going on here, I wouldn't even try to guess at genders until 12 weeks.  Even then may be a bit premature for the crossed birds.  What ever heritage they are, they are going to be lovely!  Would love to see them all grown up.  :)
I believe it's the opposite - a lot of roos get classified as hens.

In my own, I could spot 4/10 roos and one was iffy. Turns out that it is indeed a boy, so I have exactly 50/50.

Lol! Thanks!

It's OK if mine ends up a roo - well any of them. We're only keeping 6 pullets, my friend is keeping 4 or 5 pullets and and my other friend is keeping 6 or any remaining pullets and a roo. So at this point, I'm looking for definite roos to start rehoming, as these growing monsters are eating a crazy amount of feed daily! Lol!
I wish I could have them all - oh to live on a farm!

:) They sure do that! Seems like mine waste more than they actually eat for the first couple mos. Your birds look a awful lot like my first group did and it's really hard to tell with the "blue" coloring because they change so much with every little baby moult. For example, the rooster I kept wasn't completely obvious. As a matter of fact, he looked identical to the baby your daughter is holding right down to the skinny and slow to feather. Here's a fairly decent progression. For the record, if you really need a good educated guess NOW, I'd seek out Illia on here, she "called" this little guy at something like 4-5weeks old!!!!

Here he is just slightly younger than yours I believe.

He feathered in a typical girly unimpressive and non splashy brown. Then at about 10 weeks things were a-changin'.

You may want to consider making a wet mash instead of feeding dry crumble. I find it lasts 3 times as long that way. And wet feed is always better for them than dry I've been told :) Plus they go nuts and love it! I like to see them happy :D

I bet she called him based on the slow feathering! My boys are always much, much slower. I have one girl that I kept out of 10 - 8 week olds (I can't believe they are 8 weeks old now.. wow), and she has her beard in and is fully feathered, while her brothers are still getting some back feathers and their tails are very small!

I have a bunch of barred EEs.. Thinking they will be harder to sex :/

You're probably right. He took forever to fill in. Looked like a sad ratty little scarecrow for his first few months. LOL

8 week old EE's.What do you think? I know the B&W chick is a roo...don't know his breed. In pic 3 number the chicks 1-4, left to right.

Same chick up front in pic 2 and 4. Thanks!!
