I have an EE that has been very sluggish and puffed up for about 24 hours. Yesterday she spent most of the morning in the coop and had a rattling sound in her breathing. This morning she came out with the rest of the hens, but hasn't been running around, eating, or drinking. This morning she also started this loud sneezing sound. The other hens seem concerned, and occasionally will come peck at her. She has gotten all puffed up before (but no labored breathing or sneezing last time), about a month ago, and I ended up massaging her crop and turning her upside down in an attempt to treat sour crop. She recovered from that and has acted normal until now. I have 6, and they are just now starting to lay, she hasn't produced any eggs yet. I've read several threads about respiratory disease, etc., but wanted to post a video here to get opinions. Below is a link to a Youtube video of her this morning. Any help is appreciated.

The video is helpful, but next we need to see a closeup of her facial tissue and eyes. Also the color of her comb.

Was her crop full this morning before you fed her? That determines whether or not you might be seeing a crop disorder. (And turning a chicken upside down doesn't treat a crop issue)

How old is she? Has there been sneezing in the general flock from time to time?

Her crop did not feel full this morning before I fed her. Also, I’m aware that just turning a chicken upside down doesn’t treat a crop issue (I was “attempting” to clear her crop - attempting the key word there I am new to this). She is 7 months old and there has been no other sneezing in the flock.

Gosh, she looks fine. No swelling of facial tissues. I see no discharge from the nares. One thing we can't see is inside her mouth. Do you see any sign of plaque deposits that could be encroaching on her airway?

There are better and safer ways to treat a full crop that don't risk asphyxiation. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...w-to-know-which-one-youre-dealing-with.73607/ But I don't think a crop issue is what you're dealing with here.

She's very young for tumors, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. I had an eleven-month old rooster become overwhelmed by tumors from lymphoid leucosis. It affected his breathing when the tumors enlarged his organs to over ten times their normal size. Unfortunately, the only way to discover if this is the cause of your hen's issues is for her to die and a necropsy performed.

I can’t see any plaque buildup - her airway seems to be fine. Thanks so much for the information! I guess I’ll just keep an eye on her and see what happens.
