The bird was sold as an Araucana, but we all know they're really Easter Eggers at the farm store. My question is on the coloring of this bird. What color/feather pattern is this? Any help is appreciated. My son is doing this for a 4H project.

It isn't a named variety, most birds of this type aren't. It's an attractive chicken, that's all.

That is what most call partridge. Not the penciled kind like in Partridge Rocks where the hen has a penciled look.

Partridge and wildtype are two very different things. The bird's pattern is a mix of genes, none of which have been selected for over generations as with exhibition quality birds, and that, as well as the exact gene combination make a big difference.

Thank you for the answers so far! What would you call this for a 4H record book?

Personally I would choose a different breed for a 4-h'er. Easter Eggers aren't really a breed.
Agreed. It would be better to get him/her a bird with a real breed and variety. If your chld wants to use the bird for showmanship, that is probably okay, but not for exhibition.

He's using a Mille Fleur Belgian Bearded d'Uccle for showmanship, but he wants to take this bird too, for the non-standard category. He's allowed to take a total of 5 birds. He just wondered what to call this variety for his record book. Thank you!

Is the category actually called non-standard or is there a name to it?
