Hi y'all. A few days ago I had a young pullet injure her eye some time. And little by little I've noticed her decreasing in eaing and drinking. The eye is completely closed now. No swelling. And its been closed for a few days. Before it shut completely I looked at the eye its self and it was fine. No blood, no visible scratches to the eye. Around the lid was scratched. What should I do? All injuries look healed. But she's not opening that eye and the scratch has healed. What now?

I would probably apply some Terramycin or plain Neosporin ointment to the eye. If there is any eye drainage, bubbles, or crust, she may have a respiratory infection. Her not eating and drinking sound like something else is wrong such as coccidiosis. Is she lethargic, or puffed up or hunched over, or having diarrhea? Has she been wormed? How old is she, and how long have you had her?

There is no drainage what so ever. Yes they are wormed yearly. I've had her since she hatched so she's around 4 months old now. No hunching, puffing out or anything out of the norm, besides the closed eye and not eating or drinking as much. I'm quite sure she isn't coping with her new disabality. Cause if I put food to her front she don't respond. If I put it off to the side to her good eye she does eat some and the same thing happens with water. Poos are all normal. She is getting weak tho. No running around like normal. She just lays and looks around with her good eye

I'm just so confused. Just looking at her it looks like nothing is wrong just that she's making her eye stay shut. Should I try to open it?

I would open it and look closely for anything in the eye. In tropical climates eyeworm can be a problem, but ammonia fumes from droppings, dusty conditions, and a lack of circulating air in the coop can cause eye irritation. I would recommend the eye ointments, or at least a lubricating eye drop.

Will any eyedrop work?

A lubricant eye drop, saline, but nothing that "gets the red out" or something for medical conditions like glaucoma. Most people have an antibiotic ointment such as triple antibiotic, bacitracin, or other in their first aid cabinet.

Ok update! The eye was hard. The lid and the skin around it. So I'm guessing scab. I put vasiline on it, in hopes of loosing the skin and allowing her to open the eye. And I got her to drink but not eat. I separated her and she is in her own cage with access to food and water. Without being bullied and having her food stolen.
