Easter Egger

All 3 of my 15 month old EEs are molting and not laying right now. That is definitely a hen and not only is she new to her environment (which would be hard on anyone) she is probably just starting her molt or will be VERY shortly. After the she gets comfortable in her new home (most likely after her molt is over) she should start laying again. =) I love my EEs...they have the best personalities out of all of my chickens.

I'm am excited that our 2 EE are going to lay eggs.
They are both about 10 weeks.. we bought from MPC..
Fabulous company!!
For some reason I thought that our blue or lavender
was a Ameraucanas.. ..know as a EE... Anyway. Just as long as she
gives us eggs we are happy!! Hopefully green/ blue green,.. Her name is felisha
and the sweetest! .. Our other girl is a brown EE.. Her name is Faith...
She thinks that she is the boss sometimes....

Still no eggs. She absolutely loves yogurt and oatmeal. I got some fake wood eggs to put in the nest boxes. How long does a molting period usually last?

is she losing feathers?

is she by herself in quarantine, or do you have just one chicken? She is probably lonely if she is by herself.

I put a mirror in the isolation coop when i just have one in there. they seem to like that.

Shes lost a few little feathers on her neck but thats it. She is not in quarantine, and not by herself. I have 3 other hens besides her and 2 Roos.

Have you been able to spend time just observing? 4 hens is not nearly enough for two roosters (the recommendation is about 10 hens per rooster) so it could be the start of a molt or it could be that the roosters are pulling her neck feathers while mating her. It could also be that the hens are pulling feathers as part of the pecking order squabble. Hard to say without watching the group interact. But the stress of upsetting the pecking order can shut down egg production in any of the hens involved for a period of time but it's even more likely to happen with the new arrival. FWIW, if it is a molt, my EEs molt fast and furious so the head looks rough and then the tail, a big section of the wing, and some body feathers all over all fall out at about the same time. It looks like a pillow exploded.

Ya I spend time observing daily. The roos I have are younger and havent tried to mate with any of the hens yet, honestly I didnt want roos but they just started crowing one day and I didnt want to get rid of them :( The other hens do pick on her a little bit, more or less just chase her off, havent really pecked at her. So I guess she hasnt started molting yet because it does look close to a pillow exploding lol.
