Easter Eggers Beauty

Pics
Newbie question- aren’t all Easter Eggers “mixed”? They’re hybrids, so I thought they would always be considered mixed....
Depends on who you ask. Most EE's from hatchery stock are from the same stock for the last 40 years. Other's lump all mixed breed birds into the EE catagory. The problem lies in the fact that EE is not a APA recognized breed with a standard. So genetically, the hatchery stock, is pure easter egger. Backyard breeders probably have other breeds thrown in there somewhere.

Ah, thank you. Americanas are EE’s, right? Do you know if they tend to be hatchery stock or general mixes? We bought our chicks at a local feed store.

If you got them through the feed store they are most likely easter eggers. Ameraucana breeders think of them very differently. They breed for a certain set of charicteristics. If you were just looking at parentage, then you might come up with a different answer. But this is a question some will fight to the death about.

Thanks- I have read up on the AmerIcana spelling being EE vs the AmerAUcanas as their own breed, so I’m familiar with that piece of the debate, but you’ve enlightened me on the EE history! Thank you!

This is Peck, our 4-week-old EE!
