I have two easter eggers and two barred rocks. They are now 28 weeks old. My barred rocks have been laying for about 3 - 4 weeks. But, both of my easter eggers have not layed any, yet. My question is, how long do easter eggers usually lay eggs and is there a point where I should be concerned? Thank you for any help

Anywhere from 4-7 months on average. Breeding, feeding and time of year can affect start dates. Switching to a layer before they are laying can slow down maturity. Fall maturing pullets can take about a month later to start than those maturing earlier.

So we should feed grower until they start laying?? I didn’t know layer feed could slow down maturity.

I have all mine on layer but have 10 pullets who are 23-28 weeks and none are laying yet (crested cream legbars and Olive Eggers). They’re mixed with 9 laying hens and share feed so not sure if I should switch back to grower and have oyster shell on the side??

I personally don't use a layer ration anymore. Everyone gets either an All Flock ration or a non medicated starter grower depending on if I have young in the flock or not.

A layer ration usually has a lower protein so switching to one will slow down maturity sometimes. Pullets need protein to continue to grow, as well as producing those eggs.

Oh ok, my layer mash has more protein than the grower, 17% vs 18%. I guess I will carry on with the layer and hope that they earn their keep soon:) Thank you!

Congrats on anyone else's hens laying, I have an EE at 23 weeks and her two friends passed due to a raccoon recently. I'm going to get her two new friends around the same age at some point, she's supposed to start laying in the Winter/Fall (November, To Be Exact,) so I'm afraid I won't get any eggs for a few weeks to a few months yet at least.
