Chirping
I recently saw a post on FB where someone was looking to sell two easter eggers. My current flock is three cochins (one smooth, two frizzles), an olive egger I got from Meyers hatchery, and two Ameraucanas (one lavender, one blue). I figured EEs would be similar to the Ameraucanas, so they'd probably be a good addition to my flock. Well it wasn't until she delivered them that I realized that these birds are nothing like my Ameraucanas. I know that by definition an EE is a mixed breed that lays colored eggs, but these are definitely not what I had in mind. The girl raises production reds, ordered them as day olds from the hatchery, and didn't realize they weren't reds until they developed white earlobes. She kept them until they started laying blue eggs, then decides to get rid of them. I'm wondering if they are maybe production reds mixed with something like a legbar. They're heavy compared to my girls and one of them seems a little eager to pick on the other. I'm a little bit worried about how they'll work with my cochins. Has anyone had RIRs or production reds with cochins before? My cochins aren't tiny, but I'd say they're about 6ish lbs. One of my frizzles and my OE tend to rule the roost, so I'm curious to see how this would affect the pecking order. I'm a bit nervous. They're separated right now and have only met briefly without the hardware cloth in between. Any thoughts?
