Easter Hatch Online Hatching Egg Swap

I had 1 quail hatch from my swap eggs, but it didn't make it. It had leg issues. All of my other eggs quit just over half way through. Not sure if I had a temp issue again or what.

The 3rd bator that didn't have any easter hatch eggs in it has had babies popping left & right the last 2 days with more trying as I type. Hot2Pot, 1 of your Silkies is pipped & 1 more trying. The other 6 eggs didn't make it.

I know, I researched it and found that it could be temps to high or too low, humidity too high or too low. I did recheck my temp on my hatcher and it was running about 2 degrees too hot. But I hatched some after, and again late deaths. So I am disinfecting it really good and getting some sponges. I hope that will solve it. So sad to lose them at the end. It used to be that if they made it past day 10 they would hatch for me. Sad.

I have read of other people that have had trouble with their shipped eggs making it to lockdown and then not past that... I just did another hatch with combined shipped and my own eggs... Once again, a decent hatch from my own eggs, zero from the shipped eggs... The shipped chicks were fully developed, one had internally pipped... I had a few of my own do the same, but the majority of them hatched.. Anyone have any ideas???

I think that my shipped egg hatching issue was totally my fault. I put them into the "hatching" incubator and the temp was off.

TNBearchick - did you have any hatch out of the ones I sent you?

I wonder if shipping takes some of the vigor from the chicks so they are not as strong when hatch time comes. I've had the same thing happen to me multiple times.

Sometimes it does if they get rough handling on the trip.

I like this theory... since hatching takes the most energy from them... interesting thought...
