Hi guys I'm Jessica. I live in eastern North Carolina. I have Orphs, Golden Laced Wyandotte, Barred Rock and a few to young to tell . My hubby says I'm quickly becoming addicted to my chickens. I am completely free range and only put my boys and girls up at dark in a fenced in area.

My oldest hen is only 15 weeks so no eggs yet. I'm getting everything ready for her in the next week.

You guys have already helped me solve serial problems and I'm as addicted to BYC as I am my chicks.

Welcome to BYC!

Sounds like you have a lovely flock! And yes, chickens are highly addicting!

I would be worried about not keeping my chickens in a secure coop at night. Once the predators find your place, it is only a matter of time that they get in and kill your birds. So be careful with this.

Enjoy this new adventure you are on and welcome to our flock!

Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

X2 on what Two Crows said. It's best to be prepared and not have to suffer the heartbreak of a predator break in.

A major trade off of free ranging a flock, is the eventual and sometimes persistent loss/maiming by predators. It is, what it is. Welcome to the flock
