ok I cant find ant decent breeding stock black javas within 400 miles.

Any one want to trade GLW's , SS's, and reds for Delawares ? I have got to get down to two breeds max and am now thinking a del breeding program.

Chickens do prefer to NOT mate with "relatives", as in other chickens they were raised with. Perhaps your hen is worried about mating with "brothers".

Chicks that start out fine and go downhill could be vitamin deficiencies. At least try the (human) baby liquid vitamins in the chick water. Won't hurt them and might very well help. Many folks here on BYC also swear by B vitamins in the chickens' water. Tractor Supply also has electrolytes packets to go in chicks' water. I think it is called "chick saver" or something close.

I'm thinking of showing a SLW cockerel and a blue orp cockerel at Cocke County. I know there weren't a lot of LF, but I want to give it another go. I know there's a reason people keep doing this year after year...
