OMG!!!!!!!
You went and done it Nella...now I am going to dream about these little guys. I want another dog so much but DH is afraid of getting attached to another dog. You would never think he was such a softy if you met him. I actually did not realize myself until we lost Jake. Of course 18 years is a long time to form a relationship with a dog.
If anyone here does get one (or any large breed dog)...when it is around 10 months old take it to the vet and get the hips x-rayed to keep on file. Helps the vet out a lot if there are any problems later. GP are about the same size as Anatolians but they have more body mass..I think the two mixed is wonderful.. But they are worth it. I still kick myself for adopting out the last Anatolian I fostered.

Daphne...it is easy to train these dogs...just leave them with the livestock and don't make them into your regular "want to love on you pet". I am not saying you can't pet them...just keep it limited. It is best when starting one to put it in a pen with only 2 animals of your choice...then when it is use to that after about 10 days add a couple more. Then move onto larger quantities. This way if it is not going to work (if not a small pup) you will not have a huge loss and it is much better to work slowly into things.

These pups Nella sent are just the right age. AND SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!

1st thing that comes to mind is she over dosed her on the wormer (action immediately preceding the reaction is a good place to start)
2nd thing that comes to mind is she could over do it on the vits. (some are fat soluble and will build up)
3rd impacted crop, not getting enough nutrition. How is her crop/

The wormer and vitamins were given after her symptoms started, so I don't think that's it.

Someone else suggested treatment for impacted crop, but the owner didn't specifically respond to that post. I'll get back on there and ask her to feel the pullet's crop first thing in the morning to see if it's empty.

I'll let you know.

Thanks.

I can't have a dog, much less one the size of a horse. Please don't post any more pictures. Although, as I looked at the little cuties I thought, "Even if I had the $100 I'd buy another Brinsea instead." So I guess I can resist puppies & bunnies! Yay me!!

I don't vaccinate for anything. If a sparrow can wipe out the whole flock than why are we trying to raise heritage birds? I want my birds to be able to resist Mareks and anything else they're exposed to. Good feed, no overcrowding, clean coop, fresh water, and a draft-free place to get out of inclement weather should maintain a healthy flock.

Lately I've been guilty of slight overcrowding though

And I threw my back out, so I'm not sure I can get to the Show to sell some

Read up on Mareks

That's what it sounds like to me....

Noooooo! That word scares me to death.

There was a lady on the imported thread that bought infected birds from a reputable breeder and she described her experience. They had the typical leg thrown out behind them posture eventually and they generally felt bad as a first symptom. They were all puffed up and miserable. I'm hoping since this one's alert and chatty that it's not Mareks.

The only way to confirm is testing, right? She said she doesn't have a local vet that will see poultry, but I'll see if she knows about extension offices.

After reading stuff like this I always sure my flock is riddled with disease. Every sneeze or wet beak means they have MG / CRD, or Coryza. I didn't know Newcastles existed before bairo mentioned it, so now I have another one to worry about. And don't get me started on AI!

I'm hoping my risk is low since I've hatched my birds or bought them as day olds. But when I took Roo to the show and then brought him back home I was certain I'd killed them all even though I quarantined him. Now I've even broken the chicks-only rule. I have some wheaties in quarantine and worry about that since my guys go right up to their pen when they free range and I wear the same shoes into their pen as I do when I go into the others' when I feed and water... You can drive yourself crazy if you think of all the ways your flock is vulnerable.

I need to do the NPIP testing and ask for every additional test if only to give myself a break from obsessing.

On a happier note, today is our last day before Christmas Break!

Right there with you. Megan will be home today about 1 pm. All three of us are in the Christmas play tonight, mom's coming over from Asheville to see it and of course will want to spend the night. She will manage to tell me how to dress, what to eat, and how to clean my house before she leaves. We have to finish the candy making, start wrapping presents, be at church 3 times over the weekend and still be able to put on a smile.

Dont you just love Holidays

The one in Sparta, tomorrow. It's at the White County Ag building. I need to go to sell some birds, but DH really doesn't want to. Won't make enough to cover gas unless we take my car, which gets better gas mileage. But it has a dysfunctional defrost, so we'd be wiping the windsheild the whole way up.

I won't know if we're going or not until 6am tomorrow.....
