Well, My chicks are getting bigger. I am not liking what I see. Everywhere I look I see rooster traits! It didn't help that out of 59 chicks only 3 are not black or gray. I ended up with 1 splash maran and 2 splash EE's. I'm hoping girls! I see lots of big combs and little button spurs. I still haven't figured out the 3 blue copper marans yet. Only 4 of the EE's are clean legged. And 2 are spalsh. I'm thinking I should have used a welsummer to darken the eggs instead of the maran. But then I wouldn't have gotten the sea of blue babies LOL. What do ya'll think A bunch of boys?
Let's play spot the blue copper Marans

There are 3 in here. And 1 in the yard with the broody.
My kids put all the blue ones in with the ee's last week. I was going to band them before tossing them in the pool.
Next year I will banding them as they hatch. Since the roo is a french standard he shared his feathered leggs.

I don't know peach, looks like only a few roosters at the moment! I would only say the ones developing large combs right now are roosters, I'm sure there will be more to follow... the last pic the chick in the middle back looking at the camera, no doubt a roo! Look at how red that is!? How old are they?

They will be 3 weeks this weekend. I had to take the logs out of the pool cause they where jumping out. This weekend a fence goes around them. 1 more week and out they go. Unless it stays cold like this week! They sure get stinky fast. By the time 4 weeks is up everyone is ready to throw them out in the coop. But not till it is warm enough.

bairo, I went home last night and checked out the rabbit hutch I wanted to use for 2 quarantine coop, it's too small, like 2'x2'!! do you think you will have 2 Delawares later this spring/summer? My husband needs to move to our house a playhouse from a friends that's becoming a coop, but the grounds been too wet to move it or to set it in place at our house, Then the aviary/ makeshift coop behind the barn will come available to use as a quarantine area.
I have 3 Delaware pullets right now that are getting ready to officially be hens (They are about 10 months old) Laying every day.
It looks as though the 3 month olds are gone though

The next batch I will hatch will be Welsummers or Welsummer crosses. I'll probably fire up the incubator again the 1st of May. We have changed out our primary rooster in preparation of moving to mainly Olive Eggers and dark egg layers. I will be working on a specific color combination with the Welsummer over a certain color Ameraucauna as well as pure bred Wels and others. I doubt though I will separate my other layers and so may have some sports with some interesting features from the dels and glw's. I would say the first of June I will def. have something of interest to you. Any cross I do is always from the more docile varieties with good egg laying potential. I'll post a pic later and give you a peek at one example of what I'm working on with the color.

Bairo, I just set some Marans/Cream Legbar cross (I am going to call them Marsbars). They should lay a nice green egg and have straight combs. I also hatched just hatch F2 olive eggers, but they are all black/blue. Can't wait to see how your Wel/Am combination looks. I

Stanglover, my little Blue marans that I got from TNbarnqueen is hanging out with the big chickens already. They haven't totally taken her in but she is doing fine. She has buddied up with the 2nd rooster in command.

I just set my first set of 24+ eggs from my Swedish Flower Hens also, so I will have lots of chicks in three weeks. Also if anyone would like to do a test hatch for me I will give you some free eggs! Just PM me. I am coming to Knoxville on Saturday and can meet up.

Here are a few of the photos from my Easter portrait sessions. Thanks Tennesseckn and tnbarnqueen for helping me out with cute fuzzy yellow chicks for the photos.

Wont be able to go to the knoxville show saturday as planned as something has came up. Will be at newport though. If anyone needs a partridge silkie roo let me know, I have wayy too many and some need to go asap.

bairo, please PM and let me know when you have Del pullets, I'll try to talk my husband into more than 2. Show quality is not necessary-I just want to preserve the breed. Next year he is suppose to make a coop for 18 to 25, and hopefully i'll know if it's mostly delwares and australorps..

Amenfarm I see you have a Corgi? Is it a male/female color? I have a 5 month old female tricolor. In about 6-8 months I will be looking for a male tricolor pup. Or, a year from now looking for a tricolor stud. I drove to Athens AL to get Livia. I had a hard time finding them in our area. I would love to have a heard of these lil dogs.
