I've had birds pick at each other in a small kennel while traveling. Hopefully your coop is big enough to give them room to escape from each other. Make sure are lots of roosts and things around to distract them. Make sure to use something on the wound...as Bairo said, blu-kote or something similar can camoflauge it so the others dont pick. Its possible you may need to lock up the "bully" (or bullies) temporarily to let the others get higher in the flock. Do you have other hens? That may change what we recommend.

If they are in a larger space (ie a coop versus a travel cage), they may get along better. my birds all get along great in a half acre area. But if you stuck them all in a crate, they would fight. That's just what they do.

You need to keep the seprate until you are sure they are not carrying anything like mite or lice and are not sick. Do you have hens in the coop already? Leghorns can be rough on other breeds so watch them carefully when you put them together.

We only had two other chicks 1 month old and a 1 1/2 month old. I did put to 2 golden comets in a pet taxi for the night and all day today. I also put the 2 smaller ones in another pet-taxi. I did go to TSC and get the blue wound spray. Put it on her when I got home with it.

I would try locking up the leghorns and letting the golden comets and your originals out together. If they get along together, then after a few days (or longer) let 1 of the leghorns out. After a bit longer, let the other out. That should help keep the leghorns lower on the totem pole. However, since they are so young, they will hopefully all grow out of it. I've had picking when I had young birds and never had any other problems once they were big and out of the brooder and had other stuff to do.

I agree about all the work that goes into showing birds tennesseeckn. I could not believe it took 7 hours for the judges to finish!! The only reason I would show for myself would be for the feedback. Especially if it is a line that I am working on. The judges feedback lets you know what features you need to improve on. Like you I really learned a great deal Saturday and met some really interesting people.Like so many other types of shows they can get so political. I left before the top chicken was decided but someone told me it was the same person who won every year. So.....

Don't get me wrong, those of you who show, I admire anyone who puts the effort I saw into performing in a show like that. .

One of the people I met was a gentleman named E.J. Weaver. What a sweetie! I had asked if he knew anyone who raised Japs. What luck...HE raised them! A friend of mine was looking for some. So..Tuesday Barebottomfarms and I are off to Halls. What a trip. It took a while but we finally found the mountain that Mr. Weaver lived on. Mr. Weaver is, oh, in his late 70s. He took us on a tour of his chicken farm before we talked about buying. He had some of the most beautiful Old English breeds I have ever seen. It was amazing how he could care for, I would say, at least 600 chickens! I learned ALOT from him that day and got a lot of good ideas. He had 2 pair of Crele OEs. I fell in love! I knew I had to have some...so...this fall he is bringing a pair to me at the Nov. show!!

Tracy bought a very nice pair of white Japanese Bantams. If anyone here is looking for nice bantams...let me know and I will get you in touch with Mr. Weaver.

Welcome to the feed Cetteia!!
I am so glad to hear you daughter is enjoying chickens with 4H. I was a big 4H member when I was young. It is a great program. On the tag for the Ameraucana...BV means Best Variety, BB means Best of Breed...I am not sure on the others. (Anyone jump in and correct me if I am wrong on that) I am just learning some of this too. It is a big responsibility showing and all the work that goes behind it..So...Cudos to your daughter!! I was at the show...had my Delaware in it just for fun. I am sure you are very proud of her work!

I have, but you live a good bit away from here. I've seen it at the LC Feeds store in Lenoir City. She's usually always has some, unfortunately, her prices have gone up once again due to prices rising everywhere and she can't compete with TSC prices because TSC gets some kind of discount from Purina. Mike the guy that works there said TSC should see a price change soon too and will start charging more

feed is getting ssooo expensive! I spent $42 on 3 bags of feed!

Ok. I was looking at the "Marans of America Club" web site and found the information you were asking about:

CH AOE stands for Champion Ameraucauna (or something close)

BB stands for Best of Breed. That means of all the birds of all the Varieties within the breed itself, your bird was the best.

BV stands for Best Variety. That means that of all the genders of that color, or Variety, your bird was the best.

Con or Cond: this refers to Condition, which may mean your bird needs to be washed, have toes or beak
trimmed, or other similar measures taken.

So looks like your daughter and Snowwhite was the the Champion in her class. But you need to work on cleaning her up next time.

I saw Snowwhite and thought she was a very nice looking.

Congratulate your daughter for me, for having an award winning girl.

Edited to add:

If you would like to learn more of the codes follow this link.

I know it is for marans but I am almost sure the codes apply to most shows.

There is a web site for the Ameraucauna. It is the club site that should be real helpful. We also have many people here on BYC into that breed. Go to the breed section one up from here to the breed, breeding and showing and look for the thread. It is ususally close to the top on first page.

Well, we lost our oldest chick. Not sure if the roosters stomped it chasing hens or something got it. Dang rooster is being a PIA of late to one of the moms.
