At least you were chasing him and not him chasing you. :D
mean roosters don't last around here. I read that mean roosters produce mean roosters. He is a guy that shows and said he doesn't care if it's one of the best if the rooster is mean his ofspring will be as well. Although he does chase my friends small kids he has never tried to attack an adult.

Littlechicklet - after seeing the Orp photos you posted, I think you have 1 black roo, 1 blue roo, and 1 black pullet, the runt is a bit questionable but leaning towards pullet.

I was on the BYC auction section, and found a really darn good deal on hatching Orpington eggs! I spent all my money on those darn banty cochins!

maybe in the Spring when you sell the cage you can find another deal. sorry your luck sounds like mine. I still have the one LF Orpington rooster that I am not sure I want to keep but he has such a nice disposition I can't seem to let him go just yet. I am a true softie.

This one is of the black pullet with the leakage in her neck feathers, I thinks she has one white spot on her wing feathers too.

This little girl here, is a camera hog! After I scared everyone from walking to the pen, she walked up to me and just sat there looking at me. LOL

Her eye looks funny in this photo, but as you can see in the others she's fine.

Here's her poor pitiful butt!

This is one of the roosters, and the other pullet I would like to find homes for. He looks almost laced?

I decided I'd do BBS only, so going to try to find a home for this little guy too... may keep him until I find a replacement.. depends on how it goes.. He's also not camera shy!

thanks. I am thinking the same. The black one that is probably a roo is friendlier & comes up to me. I am also not sure about the runt depends on the time of day as to which way I lean. You probably know how it is: hoping pullet so tending to overlook roo signs.

Yes, they are the ones I got from Rodney. Two Marans and 7 Welsummer or Welsummer cross. So I've had them for just over a week. Would you wait longer or take your chances this soon?
Do you have any fencing? Here is what I do... it's ugly but it works.....

ESPECIALLY if a group wanders and doesn't listen well, I will take either netting or 2ft tall green fencing and section off a area. Like I have roosters that would wander so I put netting up about 100ft down the property line, then from their coop over to another fence (for the dog's part of the back yard).... this gave them something like 1/4 acre but that 2ft keeps them in a physical visual barrier. Cant they hope over it? Yes, they can. But they don't bother because it is a huge area for a few birds. Likewise, when let my other birds out, they don't cross the 2ft fence. I just took zip ties and drove 2x2s in the ground as posts about every 8ft. No gate needed... just step over it, but I did use carabeeners at the point it attached to their coop so I can peel the fencing back and get the mower through. Easy peesy.

stang- they look like nice. I am a LF and clean leg kinda girl. I think I see the benefit of bantams but am not ready to cross over there yet.

Here is a case in point... that butt... result of canablism and it will never grow back. How do I know and can be so sure? I had a canabal from hatchery... she butchered up some her clutch mates the same way. They are alive and well... but it won't grow back, only the down will be there. Who wants pics of my ugly zombie girls?

ETA and now I'm really wanting them because I have a big soft spot for special needs/sad story chickens. Wait until you see my tiny LF Columbian Wyandotte. I have always hid her from the world because people might judge me, but it wasn't my fault. The killer was culled as soon as I caught her in the act... and this one and two others were butchered. But the Wyandotte had it the worst... her bones were showing and she looked like a literal zombie. Bless her. She is the best chicken, though. I nursed her in the house for 4 months!! WHY AM I ADMITTING THIS!?!?!

There are pin feathers growing back

I guess if someone is going to coddle her may not matter? She's the friendliest by far of all of them.

My EE rooster (Candy Cane) was picked on by his flock mates & looked just like her. When I got him he was about 4 months old & the pullets were wearing him out. I separated him from them for at least 2 months. His tail feathers came back. I let him mature some & put him back in & he is fine now. He was also the friendliest of the bunch and still is. So maybe there's hope?
