I hope I am not intruding or posting in the wrong spot. I don't post often. We have a Black Copper Maran Rooster that we need to re-home. Oreo was born on May 6th, hatched from an egg from the Garry Farm, http://thegarryfarm.yolasite.com/, by one of our broodies. Unfortunately, we also had a Welsummer Rooster hatch about the same time. The two grew up together and were best buds for a long time. While they still don’t fight, Lurch, the Welsummer, has become dominant and has no interest in sharing his girls. Oreo is not happy and is making the others unhappy too. We had hoped to keep them both but, it’s not working out. He is a sweet, handsome boy and deserves a chance to have a flock of his own. We are asking $15.00, mostly to dissuade anyone who just wants a chicken for the stew pot. We live in Strawberry Plains and would happy to answer any questions you have about him or our flock of 15. It has been disease free for 3 ½ years. Give us a call at 865-933-1308 if you have an interest.

Poor things... glad you found them... look up PPAW - I know it is a drive for you, but sounds like it's worth it with the savings. Their momma and kitty special is $30 for the mom and $10 for the kittens (each) plus state rabies shot $7/each.... that includes their kitten shots.

I get disgusted at vet costs. Makes me want to be that old person going to school with the kids to become a vet and do something like PPAW does.
Thank you for the link! I checked it out and it's quite a drive from here, about 2.5 hours and that's interstate, I don't use the interstate since I was in a wreck, I get panic attacks now even riding with people freaks me out, so it would probably take me twice that long. I will still check into a few more local places before contacting them as a last resort. There used to be a place called Holley Help in Kingsport, I will try to dig up some info on them and a few other no kill places. My vet is really not that expensive, I work with one of the vet tech's husband and they usually hook me up near their cost with most things, but the meds and supplies they use keep going up in price too just like everything else. We do have a shelter, but I already do get coupons from them for spay/neuter and it's still a bit high. Our vet costs are pretty high anyway, we have a special needs dog who has a liver shunt and a cat with sinus issues.
Well they will be safe at my friends house for another week at least to get completely weaned(mixing weaning formula with soft kitten food) since mom ran away.
Thank you for your help, I will post an update when something changes!

Wow interesting comments about marans. I am actually working on some now. I had 3 hatch 2 boys and a girl :( Mine are Wheaten Marans and talk about hard to find good blood or new blood.Different subject....... I have crossed my Delaware roo to my Easter Egger hen. So far it looks like the ones that I hatched (all 3 are girls ) Have the exact Delaware coloring, but the EE comb and leg color and tufts. Will these lay blue eggs, or becasue the Delaware is a brown egg layer produce brown eggs? Does the male pass on the egg color gene? This isn't something I plan on doing I am just keeping these few as egg layers.

More than likely you have a 50/50 chance of them laying either brown or a lighter green color (blue-green)
Brown over blue = green, but there are some other factors involved.

LOL..that would be interesting. I did not know about the reds. Are they RhodeBars? Or a sport that got started
Julie Hubbard had some and for the life of me I can't find her anymore. I know she still has birds because the hatcheries are still selling her Barnevelders and Penedesencas.... I can't find red anywhere else. I don't know if she created them or if she fibbed a bit...... some of my NHs I got from her are more buff than red, so that makes me wonder.

Quote: I bet they were some type of a RhodeBar. Which is not a bad thing..unless she was acting as if she invented them, LOL.
It would still make a nice red/white/blue flock.

I just wrote Jeremy to see if he has separated out any splashes or blues that have popped up into another pen. If I get a B-b roo out of this hatch and can find enough splashes....then I'll have a really good start.

I hope you got paid out well from that wreck... sounds like PTSD if you have to avoid interstates.

I hope you can find something simular close to you

ok found her... she doesn't have them... looks like she got rid of some breeds and kept the most expensive. http://shop.gabbardhatchingeggs.com/

She used to have white rocks, "red" rocks, and barred rocks. :( oh well... I don't need a yard full of rocks anyways. :(

Judging by her other breed choices, it could have been a rhodebar. Maybe she decided to get rid of a few breeds that didn't sell well. IDK speculating

Bad bad night. Tommy went hunting with two of his girls. (one we didn't own - he was testing her to see if he wanted to buy her). The one we didn't own stepped on a stick and cut her foot wide open. (fyi, he doesn't kill - he just trains them and let's them tree) He took her to the emergency vet, and they wanted $1,500 for a blood transfusion. WHAT????? They got her stiched up for $200. He's taken her to our regular vet right now. I guess we bought her. lol

I'm tired.

Side note: If I am bringing napkins, plates, forks and spooons etc. - how many should I account for? (including spouses/mates)
