Hey guys i am new to area/site and we just started our chicken ranch

. I know this isn't the have and want thread but I figured I would try local first. I have some Roos that might interest somebody in the area, maybe we can do a trade?? I have 3 extra Barred Rock, and a Colubian. Would love to get an EE, amercauna, maran or welsummer hen to cross with a amercauna roo I have. All of my birds are 11 weeks old today. I also have some Jumbo Cornish X rocks, thinking maybe use them to increase the size of somebodys smaller breeds, (if tha'ts even posable?). PM me if your interested or maybe if youve got a better idea for me to get to the multi colored eggs I really want...

Your chickens are healthy looking. I love to see chickens ranging with their fluff butts up in the air. We are maxed on the roosters. We have one for each breed.

here is the silkie rooster I have. I need him gone soon. Wanting 5$ or will trade for big stock eggs to hatch

He's pretty. I don't know anyone that has silkies, but I'm sure the long-timers here do.

Well, I went out after all the rains...OMG! The water I had running around and through my run! I could have done a backstroke in it. Thank goodness I don't have chickens yet. What are some recommendations on keeping the ground dry? I am going to cover the run, partially. But, once the ground is just down to dirt, what do you all do to keep it dry?:/

One of my guineas didn't come home. They have been dropping eggs, and I know if they are fertile they will hide somewhere. But it is too cold to be sitting on eggs on the ground. Kind of worried.

How do you keep guineas from wandering away? Are they as noisy and loud as I'm told?

I just put pallets down this time of year... like islands in the mud. I have seen people do fancy drainage systems involving alot of work and pebbles.... stay away from straw - grows mold (and doesn't work very long anyways)

I did cut a drain line to divert water around one particular coop that got flooded bad often.... that worked for most rainy days.

Ooh, pallets are a good idea...thanks. I am planning on getting someone out here to see about how best to divert the water. My poor DH thought this chicken experience wasn't going to cost much! Funny, funny man! Little did he know! I know once the plants are eaten away, it will be somewhat of a mud hole. Usually, we don't get so much rain, but I'm glad I went out to see where the water runs. We've only lived here about a year and a half. More work to do....

For friendly layers, they are great... you'll like them alot. And between diverting water and pallets, you should survive winters alright.

Hello everyone. I live in a small mountain town called Devonia. It is in between Brushy Mountain State Prison and Lake City.
I raise many animals such as snakes, goats, lizards and of course chickens. I do not have many breeds of chickens yet but i have an incubator full of OEGF eggs and some silver laced wyandottes, marraduna basque, and rhode island reds that just got old enough to go outside to their coop.
I am also starting to raise pheasants again and am curious if their are any ornamental pheasant and/or peafowl breeders here in East TN so i can buy eggs locally instead of having them shipped this spring.
