Speaking of "dalmatian" hens.....I had planned to work on a paint cochin project but just done have the time or space.....I am going to sell my three starter girls and 2 boys.....they are white leghorn/cochin. 2 girls are POL. 1 girl is younger and looks much more like a leghorn than the other 2.

Asking $12 per POL girl or $8 for the younger girl. $30 for all 3. Boys are free (they are solid white).

Look out everyone there is a hawk invasion going on we just had 25-30 of the suckers circle sweeping the coops.

I thought I would stop in over here and see what our "neighbors" are doing to the East of us..
Frank however isn't a leghorn..those are red ears on yours and the shape is wrong and Diddle is a Barred Rock.

Nella the water is bad here as well...broody Cochin's everywhere again. Beauty is doing wonderful. She had one baby with our HL and the baby died at birth-she was so upset when I took it away but the next day she got to become a foster mom to 2 baby hotot's.She's so happy now.

She looks like a BR... Doms have a smaller body build and don't have the straight comb. Also they are not truely "Barred" they are "cuckoo" which is a really messy barring... almost like fuzzy channel on the TV (if you are old enough to remember those zig zag lines.) With BRs barring... it comes down to quality of the bird/line. they SHOULD be clean even white and even black lines, but hatchery stock usually has a bit of wave to it and often the females will have heavy black barring.

In the end, does it matter what she is?! LOL! She lays, right? And you love her, right? Sounds like a perfect bird to me!!!

thanks for letting me know the difference. Diddle was hatched in a class room. Neighbors kids teach hatched some in class. Their mom ask me to take it. Since she knew we were building a coop. That way her kids could see diddle everyday.
