Hello, I have a list for everyone to see. It is a directory for all the meat processors in TN who have a permit to do so for personal use.

It looks like we have a few to choose from.

Yeah, I found that list this past summer and got all excited. Once I started calling I found out that they are pretty much all out of business or don't process poultry. That's why I was excited to hear about the Wisners. They're great people. I saw their Orp pen and some of their EE's free ranging. They all appear to be happy and healthy but their orps were about half the size of mine. I didn't see any of their Dels.

Daphne....speaking of those posts above, did you decide if you wanted to have a decapitation party at your place after the Holidays?

Or at least the teaching of how it is done. Just finding soomeone to teach us was a journey . It seems not everyone is willing to teach . Not tallking about you bairo. But good greif we live in union co you would think it would be easy to find someone willing to show you no such luck. It might take me longer than 10 minutes to do 1 but I would be willling to work with someone just so they would be able to do it as well. Now you got speed & skills.

You're so funny. That was supposed to compensate you for all your pain and suffering. At least, that's what I would endure if I had to do all those calculations. Thank you, though.

I'm thinking of raising some Freedom Rangers in the spring which would make me motivated again somewhere near mid-summer. I'm out on vacation then, too. (Leaves me plenty of time for therapy) Is there anyone that can't wait? Anyone else considering meat birds?

Its just one of those things that if you get an opportunity to do it a few times, then you got it. I did quit chopping the heads though. I like the brain poke, then carotid bleed now. If we do get together some time to process, I'm trying to hunt down some young roos to separate them from their manhood. I figure though if everyone is bring roos to process, then I can caponize a couple of those just to show you before we actually process them. You should do it at 6 weeks normally for a real capon, but the big ones are easier to see what you are pulling out to learn.

Hey everyone! What are the poultry auctions that are around the area? Do you ever get a good price for your birds? I have some that are hard to find - cuckoo standard cochins, partridge brahma, english orpingtons, etc. that need to find new homes asap. The feed bills are just too much especially with winter encroaching. They're good quality birds and I'd like to sell them quickly but I'm not willing to give them away at an auction either... thanks

I just split my coop into 2 sections plus a rooster jail..so no room for rangers this time around. (although I am very interested in the hoop style coop..hmm? what to do?) LOL
