If you're selling off pairs I would think that you could list them here, featherauction.com, or bidbird.com. I've not had any luck rehoming boys by themselves, though. That's what led me down the dark path to processing.

I ended up with 20 roosters this summer and only 6 pullets. So, I called up this guy I meet a while back. He is the chicken trader. I traded him 2 rooster for 1 hen RIR and golden comets. My roosters where ameraucanas,EE's and BCM. I did it just to not have to process so many and not feed so many. But, he always comes across deals. I got 2 giant mottled cochins from him for $7 each. Both I lost the male last week. He hurt his leg and wouldn't put presure on it. I tried everything I had to put him in his own pen. Everyone started picking on him. It got to where he just sat around and did nothing not even try to eat so we had to put him down. He was a friendly guy too the kids loved him. They called him Mr.Fluffles. Pookey is a pet too. We will not be eating Pookey!

That's the bad thing about getting cute fluffy things.
Anyway if anyone close to the McDonald,TN area want to trade chickens cheap. I'll give you Larry's number.

I like that, except I would have to use hardware mesh instead of only chicken wire. Critters around here would have a buffet if I used that. Good basic design though, PVc never rots, rusts, chips, ETC.

let me know when you are ordering and we shall see.

bairo - I had a few problems with my pvc tractor I made... We put a tarp over it and never had pred problems but the tarp slowly deteriated in the weather/rain (rain would pool on it though we had it set up to drain down, with the constant rains we get tarps are bad ideas unless you can come up with a cheap way to make it drain better) then the pvc itself became weak, and one really bad storm came through (thankfully no chickens in it) and it being so light and having the tarp attached blew it across my garden and tore it to shreds into my garden!

Better I think. Still have to get good tarp though or replace every year. I would modify to exclude the nest boxes in favor of more room inside for meat chickens though

Hey, last chance for some point of lay ladies. Leghorn/Cochin x 3. $15 each or all 3 for $35. Somebody in their pen started laying last week, no idea who.

they will be going to the Sparta, TN show on 12/17 if not sold by then.

also, don't forget the lionhead babies. 1 black buck and 1 pointed white doe left, 1 may be pending but they have not decided which color. $20 as pets, no pedigree. Can hold til Christmas Eve pickup with prior payment.

We made this chicken tractor last year. When we lived in the city and wasn't allowed chickens. We got 2 EE's and we moved them around the back yard. They made less noise and smelled less than the dogs on either side of us. Just saying

Plus our girls ate the ticks. We had the only tick free yard in the hood

Silly city codes. It's ok to have a pit bull chained up with a 20 pound chain but don't let people have chickens!

We got freedom rangers due for processing on the 17th. Never do meaties this late in the year lot of work . The hoop tractor works great for pretty days no doubt but with all the rain we have had they got moved back in the a frame tractor for not being wet therefore not cold. They have reached some impressive weights I kinda am looking forward to seeing how they come out. When they are in the hoop tractor they move around eat & scratch in the grass. We haven't had any tarp problems just wet ground it has been so soggy. Our hoop tractor is pvc covered in hardware mesh got really large tarp to cover at night with . I will do them again in the spring before it gets too hot if these turn out 1/2 as good as they are showing promise of.There will be more bugs then as well. We got ours from ideal they had a special on them thought what the hell give it a shot.
Bairo if you do any caponizing tell when & where will be there. I wouldn't mind learning that skill now that I have processing down.( not very fast mind you but they look pretty).
Georgialee no they have to have feed as well, they will not fair well on just ranging. Dang girl I wish mine could get 80% from ranging they can only be out when we can out with them to protect from preds. Will be glad when lgd is old enough to handle by herself but right now she is young & being trained. She don't do bad for a puppy at least she don't chase the flappy sqawking chew toys.

No, this is the last baby I will have available for about a year.

JUST KIDDING.

I have 2 does with babies currently 2-3 weeks old (8 babies), 9 does bred and due within the next month and 2 more does that will be bred near Christmas. I will also be rebreeding a couple of the does due this month...next month. Nationals are in May, which is why I am breeding so heavily now. Normally I would never have this many bred. Once these all go, not sure when I will breed again.

I will have some pet quality babies available early to mid january.

List them with the prices on this thread....might get a bite?

Here's what I would like out of them (prices are negotiable)

2 cuckoo standard cochin hens - 8 mos old $20 ea.
English orpington trio (not sure on lines, but if needed can find out) - 7 mos, black roo, 2 black hens - would like $50 for the trio
Partridge brahma roo (HUGE and gorgeous!) - $15
Mille fleur bantam cochin roos - all under a year - $10 ea

The weather has been horrible for pics, but when (if? lol) it dries out I can get some.

If these orps are the ones you got from me, they are from Julie (bamachicken) and Joy (justuschickens59). They're awesome birds, but I can see why you wouldn't want to feed extras through the winter.
